Ok, so the neck on the (new, current) Stingrays are oiled/waxed.. got that..

Now, I'm guessing the headstock and back of the headstock is a satin poly finish? (the neck gets dirty but there is a line where it doesn't get dirty and the texture changes).
How about the maple fretboard? Is it a satin poly finish as well or is it oiled too (doesn't seem like it to me..)

My maple FB got dirty really fast,
like it had no finish at all [I think].

I like nickel strings, which make
my hands dirty really fast, and
the maple FB is a dirt magnet.

It's my understanding that the fretboard side of the neck is also oiled to correspond with the rear side of the oiled area of the neck.

This got me to thinking why even bother clear-coating the headstock? Why not all poly, or all oil & wax? What are the benefits that justify an extra step in the production process?
