Neck info about Luke...? (Suhr, Clapton)

Hi! I would like to know how is the luke neck compared to the

- Suhr:

56 Soft Medium V – This is a popular shape for the player who wants that 50's vintage feel but don't like the feel of the hard V. Taper is .840" to .920

- clapton warmoth:

1st Fret - .835" 12th Fret - .910"
Warmoth Direct - Replacement Guitar Necks, Custom Guitar Necks, Guitar Conversion Necks


If someone could give me the exact Luke neck shape (like 0,840 ect..)
at the 1st fret and the 12 th fret...
Other quesiton...do you know where does the luke neck comes from? a stratocaster one? which year? 56 like the Suhr?

from what I understand it's modelled on Lukes old Valley arts Robot guitar neck, which was a custom built guitar for Luke in the 1978.. so it's not really based on any Fender neck as such.. someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this..

Actually I don't think it's based on the Robot. I recall Sterling saying that Dudley (who used to work at Valley Arts) took a stab at the design, with what Luke wanted in mind, and Luke loved the resulting neck shape.

Synthaxe- it's tough to imagine that neck from just the dimensions. It really feels different than you'd think, and it's an awesome neck. As with any guitar, I'd recommend trying one in person to see if it suits you.

Your question was answered right there. I'd love to help you out and convince you but:
a) I don't own a luke
b) I'd have no clue how to measure that anyway
c) It would probably take too much effort for my lazy butt.

I think you're asking quite a bit here and I'm sure no one will give it to you if you don't get rid of the down sign in the thread title.

synthaxe- I'm not sure you're going to get the answer you're looking for here. You might be better trying the HRI board- lots of guys there have Suhrs and have played Lukes and might be able to help you out.

ok.... it's smaller than both... I know the Clapton neck quite well and a friend has a warmoth like the one you described... I can't speak about the Suhr as I haven't played it... the Luke is a bit decieving in that it's bigger than it actually feels.. I have a friend with a 63 strat and he was convinced the Lukes neck was smaller until we measured it and it's actually slightly bigger.. it's a very comfortable neck size for me and I have quite large hands...

I have a soft medium V Suhr and I've played the Luke.

They arn't really that similar, I think the Luke is more of an obvious V wheras the Suhr is a pretty mild affair.

I've not played the clapton but I have the impresion that was a quite hard V, in which case it woudn't be like the Suhr either, so not sure this tells you much really.

When I played the Luke I had been playing the Axis a lot with a C profile and the luke felt a bit strange to me (I wasn't used to Vs at the time).

As said before there really isn't much substitute for getting your hand round the thing yourself, as many people think its a great neck.

So there is no common points between these necks and the luke...

I wonder if the difference come from the width of the neck, at the nut and at the last fret... the luke is quite narrow no?
