I have a 97 AXIS SPORT that I just purchased /w a maple neck, looks like it has never had any gunstock oil and wax applied since it's birth. I can see pure maple in the upper neck in some spots, so I bought BirchwoodCasey oil and wax. What I want to know is how to apply the oil and wax,can see no way to do this with the strings on.... So,should I apply them without the strings AND mounted to the guitar or remove the neck and do it that way. Please give your advice in this matter. The neck plays like a dream, I just want to keep it that way...........THANKS!!!!

dman,

This topic is covered in great detail elsewhere..

But let me tell you right away, don't oil or wax the *fretboard* with those birchwood-casey products! They are for the *neck* of the guitar, which you can maintain without taking the strings off.

You can clean the fretboard with lemon oil or if it's really dirty, some Murphy's oil soap & water. The FAQ explains the proper dilution.
