Does anyone know what the measurement is from the factory at the 7th fret when pressing down on the 1st and 17th for a JP6/JPX/Etc?

I need to adjust my truss rod, and need a good baseline. Right now there's just too much relief and the strings are getting away from my fingers.

My assumption is that the string should BARELY be able to move when fretting 1st and 17th and pushing down at the 7th.

Also if any of you care to share your personal adjustments, I'd be thankful!

Not exactly what you asked for ... but I find it's best to go by feel on these things- I use the 1st & 15th fret and watch the action in the middle. To little and it hits the frets. Too much and there'll be a big gap. Just right and you can tap the string and hear it. (Also, if it's too low you'll get buzzing on the first few frets.)

Every guitar is different so sometimes the numbers can be a bit deceiving. Your fingers never lie.

You sure you don't need to lower the action slightly?
As for the relief, you should be pressing at the 1st fret and whichever fret is at the point where the neck meets the body (probably is the 17th like you were doing) Check the gap at the top of the 9th-10th frets, it should be somewhere between 0.5mm-1.5mm (at most, the thickness of a credit card), although it depends a lot on the guitar and your playing style too.

If you have the neck pretty much straight and it still isn't right you need to lower the action.

There should not be too much space once you fret on the 1st and 17th and tap on the 7th fret. I would say the space should be more of a business card space between the string and the fret on the 7th. However its is really a matter of what feels right to you. Hope this helps a bit? Seems like you are on the right track either way.

.010" to .015" max. My EBMMs ship closer to the .015" mark with the string height at the 12th of 4/64" (a hair higher on the lower strings. I have 2 MMs that I got brand new, and they were consistant in these measurements.

I might add that EBMM is the only 2 guitars I've erver had that have low buzz free action right out of the box.
