Hi,

I'm weighing my options as Ernie Ball is refusing to sell me a replacement 21-fret neck. I personally don't mind that I would have to route a notch for the truss wheel to fit a current spec neck, but apparently, EB does mind. Or maybe the validity of my 1985 (neck Jul 10 '85, body Jun 17 '85) EB StingRay #B022951 doesn't fit their definition of a supported product as it isn't listed in their database.

I looked at Status Graphite, but they aren't in production, currently.

I think it does qualify for replacement, what’s wrong with yours?

In general Music Man does not sell parts like necks and bodies. Sometimes they do when you return the original, but they will only swap it out for an identical neck. Neither the current Stingray Special neck nor the Cliff Williams neck will fit that bass. I don't know if any of the currently produced necks will fit.

A G&L neck should fit. I swapped a Moses neck FROM a G&L ONTO an SR4HH. Had to rearrange the holes.

If you go for this, and if they will be helpful, ship them your MM neck for comparison. The extra cost seems worth it.

Don't offhand know the year of my bass but an HH can't be very ancient. I bought it used about 10 years ago.

The wood has gone "sour". It behaves weird under tension. I'm always chasing a proper bow with the trussrod, and it never is correct. It started doing this about 12 years ago, and wasn't too bad. Now the bass is unplayable as it has gotten awful.

How are they not the same neck pocket dimensions aside from the minor detail of three, six, five screw mountings?
