I have heard some bad things in the past about necks warping on these Stingray's. Is this true of the current Stingray's. I really want to purchase one because I love the action feel and tone, but I don;t want to have to adjust the truss every week. I this still a problem with new Stingrays???

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Not sure where you are getting your 411, but the EBMM SRs are some of the best-built basses money can buy and always have been. Besides that, their customer service dept. is known for being second to none.

My SR5 is the most solid bass I've ever own, and I've owned a lot of basses. Since initially setting it up I haven't had to touch it, and I've put it through the ringer.

I bought my first one in the 70s.

I'm not entirely sure how many Ernie Ball Music Man basses I've had - quite a few, I guess.

Never had one single problem. Wherever you're getting your gossip, it's wrong.

you have been given bad info, I have owned a bunch of EBMM basses over the years, most recently I had an '87 SR4 for a while and the neck was dead straight the same as all the EBMM basses I've owned.

The neck may be a slightly (and I mean slightly) more sensitive due to the fact it has an unfinished neck, but the trussrod wheel make adjustment a charm. That being said, my SR5 went from fall to winter to spring, and I made one slight adjustment. So I doubt you'd be doing weekly adjustments.

Just buy one, and don't worry about it. :)

Welcome Nick,

Some have said the oil/wax finish makes them more prone to move than
coated/finished necks but I personally don't buy that (I own/owned other
brands). The StingRay is practically bullet-proof, and the neck and trussrod
system are unbeatable IMO.

Wide changes in climate (temp/RH%) may require a minimal truss rod
adjustment but it couldn't be any easier on a MusicMan. I live in the US Northeast
and I rarely need an adjustment, 1-3 times per year - usually after seasonal
changes. A small hex wrench, a very, very small turn & that's it! EZ!

GO AND GET ONE!!!

The neck doesn't have a hard finish but the oil and wax seals the wood effectively.

I've never had a EBMM with a bad neck and I've owned my share of instruments.(Not as many as some on this forum).;)

The trussrod wheel makes it very fast and easy to adjust the neck with a slight turn being the most you need to adjust.

Please buy one, give it to me, and I will let you know if the neck ever warps.
Shall I send my color preference.

K, before Jack starts to beat me in the head

Definitely you have been given bad info.
Never have had an issue with neck warping on any of my Stingray's, nor have I ever heard from others with problems.

You will be very happy, purchase your Stingray.
Of course, you still could give it to me, too.

Got to run, here comes Jack with his Bongo. :D

LOL :D

I wish I had thought of that!!

Nick-You love the action, the feel and the tone? What's stopping you, street gossip? Go buy that bass!! :)

BTW, If Spectre has not PM'd you with his address and color preference as of yet, I will gladly take you out to dinner and buy you as much alcohol as need be to help you make this important decision. My motives are pure but I would like to mention that I'll pay for the shipping. :p

Same here with all the ones I own and have owned. After the initial setup, I've never had to go back to adjust the necks.

bass1, I say treat yourself to that new StingRay!

I got a 2007 Ray, neck is fine. Perfect. It's got 6 bolts, and the best trussrod system ever invented, so if it WAS warped, It would be SOOO easy to fix.

PS - I think this 2007 StingRay I have is better than ANY other Ray I've ever played, they are better, in my opinion, than the older Ray's, they just keep getting better and better.

Welcome aboard!

I currently own ten EBMM basses.

I have previously owned three others. :)

I have never had an issue with the neck on any of them. :D

Maple or rosewood, they are all excellent. :D

You, my friend, have been given some bad info.

It seems that you have been given some mis-information. I only own 1 Musicman bass, and have had no issues what so ever with this fine instrument. I need to tweak the truss rod wheel twice a year (spring and fall) because of humidity changes. I need to do this to all of my other basses as well, so it's nothing out of the ordinary.

BUY ONE, you will not be disappointed.

i own quite a few musicman basses i only had to replace one neck. the bass had a flame maple neck. those necks require "a little love and attention" also living in New York the weather dosen't help. the repairs service dept. did a great job. eb's are awsome basses. you can't go wrong buying one.

I had an issue with a warped neck 'Ray. Not sure if it was my fault or not, this was back in the day when I thought I knew how to set up a bass myself. With hindsight as it is, though, I know now I should have been a bit more careful adjusting my bass (you know, waiting the right amount of time between trussrod tweeks, only turning a tad bit each time instead of cranking it, etc). I also wonder if the extremely dry heat of AZ had anything to do with it. I think I lived in a house with a swamp cooler at the time, that couldn't have helped.

I sent it in to CS and it was confirmed warped. They said something to the effect that anything made of wood has a chance of warping, no exception. I bought a new neck from the factory and lived happily ever after.

So it can happen, but in my experience I've never heard of EBMM basses having mass neck-warp problems.
