Ok-folks, I've had my Luke and my Silo for a couple a weeks now. My question is--why does the Luke feel so small at the nut----I wrote down all the neck dimensions from the site and compared---the Silo has the same nut width and the luke is only slightly thinner at the last fret. Is it perhaps in my head because I've heard so many people say the Luke neck is "small"---or is it perhaps the V profile of the Luke that gives this impression. The Silo feels fine to me as did a rosewood axis I tried----but Pete D's AL seemed a bit cramped to me at the nut as well. Tommy's morse felt pretty much like my silo. So what gives? I must admit that after looking at the dimensions on paper--- the Luke felt better to me---so part of it is probably a predisposed bias(in my head). My Str** by comparison, is only 2mm wider at the nut yet it feels way bigger. I can't believe 2mm would make that much of a difference----but this is also comin from a guy who has long giant fingers and I love the wide flatter radius Ib**** necks, but feels most at home on the dimensions of the American Standard str**. Looks like I'm gonna have to try out a Petrucci----seems those neck specs are right up my alley. All this aside----I love my Silo and will never part with it, the Luke I'm still not totally comfortable with it. If I could afford it--I'd keep it without question---Lukes my all time fav---just not sure its the right plank for me.

Just keep playin the Luke I tell you. Couple of weeks is not enough. For me it was the same thing at first and I have LOOONG fingers as well. The whole guitar seemed weird and I had to change positions and such, but everything fell into place. Dont sell it just yet.

Definately keep checkin out the Luke, but if you get a chance to check out a Petrucci, jump on the oppurtunity. I own a JP6 and the neck is amazing! I have no problem at all switching between my Strat and JP, which are 2 totally different neck sizes. But like I said, hang in there with the Luke. I'm sure you'll adjust.

yup---the only EBMM neck that is different at the nut(as far as I can tell) is the JP6 which is 1-11/16---and of course the JP7.

YEAH!!!

I played it at a shop, and it felt realllllllly small, smaller than any neck I've played. I actually liked that quite a bit. :D

I haven't tried all of the available Music Man neck profiles yet, but of those I have my order of preference would be: Luke, SM-Y2D and the Axis. The Petucci is really different from my top three. I have small hands, so these work best for me. No problem switching around model to model.

I'm gonna give it some more time---but I have big giant Vai type fingers so I'm thinkin bout tryin the Petrucci. Pastrami--- The Jimmie Vaugh strat is a great strat too for the price---but it also has the v neck---I think the v is buggin me the most. From the 3rd fret up--no problem---but the 1st position is whats been buggin me.
