Whats up guys, i am new in this forum but has being reading some of your posts and to be honest with you, you all seem to be very helpful and friendly. Now my questions are regarding the EBMM JP 6 string models,i really like to play solos, not that i am the best guitar player out there but i like fast necks,i currently own a gibson les paul custom with emg pick ups, i like playing Metallica stuff because thats my favorite band, now i am looking for a second guitar with a thinner neck(small hands), easy access to the upper frets and a whammy bridge that stays in tune, the jp models seems to have all that but don't have any dealer close by to try that out,can you please tell me how that guitar plays regarding all my questions, are the pups good for playing heavy stuff, guys please point me out in the right direction. Thanks:)

Welcome dude.

Small necks- the Luke has a GREAT neck for small hands and the bridge humbucker (EMG) is great. However it has two other single coils on it and I gather you'll be looking for a bridge humbucker. Also has a trem.

The Pet neck is thin and sounds like just what you'd want, and the p'ups are pretty great. I'd suggest trying one in person to see how you like it (somebody has got to have one somewhere around you). You definitely won't be dissapointed.

Also the Axis and Silhouettes are no slouches either. You're in trouble, because they're all killer guitars.

Thanks BEEJ that info its very helpful, one thing i've noticed about you guys in this forum, besides being friendly, its that everyone around here seems to be very professional at playing the instrument, all your posts sound very technical and thats really awesome, now can you compare that neck to another guitar from another brand just to have a clearest idea, and what type of shape would you put that neck under.i.e. C,D,V etc.,for instance i've found the neck on jackson to be very thin and nice.Ahh!! and one other thing before i forget, how's the quality on these instruments?

Every time I pick up a different EBMM I say to myself, Hey! this thing plays great! Why don't I play this one more?
The pets are something special. The neck is thinner on a pet than a silo and the silo is thinner than on an axis. I really like the silo for the 24 frets and maple. I find the pet neck to be really comfortable and fast. The thinness of the neck means I have to close my hand further to fret notes and I realized that on some faster ascending runs sometimes my pinky is a little slow. (Like that's the guitars fault)
The pets pups are great gor the JUG Jigga JUG Jigga JUG Jigga JUG Jigga JUG JUG. stuff. For the Meedly Meedly Meedly Meedly Meedly stuff I like to turn the gain up just a little bit more. And that's O.K. because I can do it.
The customer service (if you should ever need it) is the best in the world.

If you can't try one before you buy I would strongly suggest a silo. The prices are a little better than the others and then all you have to do is choose.
Color.
Rosewood or maple fretboard
Matching or non matching headstock.
Hardtail or tremolo
Piezo or not

You still get 24 frets like a JP. You can get the piezo if you want. The price is a little better. The medium neck between the pet and the Axis.

Or you could get ready to order the 20anniv silo model that will be comming out at NAMM this week. But that's another story.

Welcome and good Luck in your decision. You cant go wrong with EBMM.

Hey- my pleasure. I like seeing happy EBMM players (like Norm). Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy ;)

My gut feeling here is if you like the Ibanez/Jackson type necks, you'll probably love the Petrucci- it's the closest fit to those. Petrucci himself went from an Ibanez to the EBMM. I like more of a rounder thicker neck, so I prefer an Axis, Morse, etc. But if I was used to the thinner less radiused necks the Petrucci would be perfect.

The quality is really second to none. These are incredibly well crafted instruments. The best example of EBMMs quality is the fact that top players like Petrucci, Morse, Luke, Vinnie Moore - incredibly talented guys that play for a living - can pick up a stock instrument off the rack and gig with it. You can't do that with a lot of production guitars!

Guys!!! you are honestly very helpful thank you very much, now that we are in the subject, can you tell me about the frets on the pet neck,i like big frets or what other brands would call extra jumbo,i 've already gotten a few quotes for the instruments from a few dealers so is looking good so far(love the pearl redburst finish), you guys are converting me into music man with all thouse props on the instruments hahahahaha.Another thing i would like to know is how is the back of the maple neck,is it unfinished for smooth feel?,and for some reason i've read that the finish on the pet(paint) is kind of delicate to take care of, and does the term fully loaded mean with the shield inlays right? but if i get it with dots i can still get the piezo bridge and everything right? and thanks again guys for being so precise on your replies.

Again the pet frets seem a little bit wider than the frets on the morse and the silo. You must remember that my perception of things is askew. They also seem taller. That was before jon the man b!tch slapped my pet for being a crack whore. :) :D

The frets on the JP are the biggest of all the EBMM guitars. Apparently it's the fretwire used on the basses. Jumbo indeed.

All of what you've mentioned are options, not a problem.

All of the EBMM guitars have unfinished necks. They're ultra-smooth wood coated in oil and wax to seal in moisture. Unbelievably slick is how I'd describe them. They really don't require much maintenance. Some folks re-apply the oil/wax once a year. Some folks almost never do it. (I can never go back to a sealed neck again!)

The finish on the Petrucci requires no special handling. It's the same as any other EBMM guitar. (Polyester coat)

As Beej said, you can get the dot inlays and still get the piezo option.

Hahahahaha :p

Pete (DuBaldo) is a fantastic guy. He's on the board here and many of us (including me) have bought guitars from him.

Not only did he give me a good price, he sent me home with a shirt, DVD of the Ernie Ball Open House (this past summer) and bunch of other goodies.

You're in good hands.

+1 - Pete's a great guy to deal with. Plus, if enough of us bug him we might get him to include a take out order of his mom's lasagna with every guitar purchase :D

Snakepitve,

Many of the guys here on the forum have bought guitars from Pete DuBaldo. (He's one of us!)

Never heard a single negative thing about dealing with Pete, always lots of praise for him.

Same with the other dealers who frequent the forum.. bunch of top-shelf folks.

I'm going to get yelled at for saying this but here goes anyway:

if you want to continue using the lp in conjunction with the MM you're planning on buying (at a show), you might want to think about matching their pickup impedance a bit closer. swapping live from the lp with EMG's to a dimarzio loaded pet will result in having to slightly adjust your amp settings live after swaping guitars. I've played a petrucci with EMG's and it SCREAMED. (two 81's... ouch) even with the luke's single in the neck, if you're playing metallica stuff, chances are that you're not going to use that neck pickup ALL that much. I'd go for the luke unless you want to drop another bundle of money on a new pickup set. if you're going to sit around the house and play for fun, the pet really is a great all around guitar for everything with the pickups it comes with.

enjoy. you'll eventually end up selling the lp to get another MM... that's what I did. it's an addiction.
