No harm , No foul. What did Benji cost us? it was already tooled for and when we made the deal Good Charlotte was twice as big as avenged sevenfold is now. I have zero problem with a guy armchair qb-ing on 5 year old decisions. Also it was designed to sell olp's...the bad part is the next cd tanked.

I wish that I could find a reason to have a mid level chinese bass or guitar....it bores me.

P.S. If OLP was a mistake I would love to have a few more mistakes that have paid off like that one.....Mailbox money and we had to get a bigger mailbox.

Please don't ever go Chinese. I know business is business, and sometimes it comes down to feeding one's family (and the families of one's employees), but it will be a sad, sad day if ever EBMM manufacturing goes overseas.

H-C is fulla whiners. :p

And, after having the good fortune of visiting with Sterling on more than one occasion now, I will never doubt one of his business decisions.

Doesn't mean I'll always agree, though. :D

But he most certainly knows his business better than any of us could ever hope to.

It's amazing to me how some people who don't have a clue can be so sure of how to run Big Poppa's business.

Strings are EB's bread and butter...that was told directly to me by Big Poppa himself.

Who EBMM endorses for a signature guitar or bass is strictly their business. It was a smart move on BP's part to sign Benji...simple as that. Funny how those over there complaining don't realize it is a Silo....lol...

Loved the list of players that one dude didn't know....funniest yet was LUKE???
One of the most talented and muscial genius' of our time.

To complain about artists who have more success and talent in thier pinky is what makes it so funny to me.

Alas, I am one of those mid-life crises guys who buys these things. ;)

OLP is one of the smartest line extensions I’ve seen. Kept all the right elements, and didn’t confuse or degrade their core products or their core market with their core branding. OLP is clearly a product distinct from EBMM, hence no real brand cannibalism or confusion.

Promoting the OLP Benji was a stroke of marketing genius, even if they never sold a single Benji EBMM.

Haha! Funny thread over there!

BP, Sorry you missed out on the Hello Kitty exclusive. Maybe you can do a Hairy-Ass Truman model to draw in the cat lovers? :D

BP, I'm afraid you lost me on 4&2 and 3&1. Are these marketing terms, or are you referring to making comparable tuners available to OLP? And, how does this prevent canniblism? Hope I'm not probing too much.

He's talking about tuning key configurations on the headstocks... EBMM trademarks.

(4+2 for 6-string instruments, 3+1 for 4-string basses)

Thanks, Steve. That's what I thought (tuner design trademark), but wasn't sure about: "i just make sure that there are 4&2 and 3&1 available so the copies dont feed off of us." Making sure they are available to whom? And how does this address brand cannibalism?

Candid,

MusicMan licenses the trademarked 4+2 and 3+1 headstock design to OLP.. thus making them legally 'available' on a brand other than MusicMan. This allows 'copy' makers like OLP to use the design and MusicMan gets to make a buck from the copies rather than having their intellectual property stolen.
