Need advice and opinions on a new bongo

New member here looking for some advice and opinions before I lay down a hefty chunk-o'-change at my LMS on a Music Man bass. Been digging for a Stingray or such but when I saw the new Bongo I decided to jump in. Problem is, my LMS only has a 5 string w/ HH. Wondering about the 4's, HS's and H's. Tried some slapping on the 5 HH and found the neck pickup gets in the way on the pullup. But I like the sound of mixing in that pickup. Would an HS be a good compromise or would the single H be in order for funk? Also, not being set in my ways, 4 or 5 string?

Welcome Newbie

First of all, go with the fiver. It will make you much more versatile IMO.

I slap a wee bit and found that it wasn't too hard to adapt to the H/SC combo. And the tone variations really come in handy over just a single humbucker, again IMO. Not sure what the H alone sounds like but when I turn the selector to H only it drops a LOT of bottom.

If your LMS isn't priced right or will take a long time to order, you might want to check out Bass Central. They have a lot in stock and were $50.00 cheaper for my Bongo 5 in Candy Red than standard colors are at Musician's Fiend (and 2 of 3 colors aren't even in stock there).

Thanks SBG. Probably going to order it next weekend. Will post some pictures in ... oh... 3 months. Atleast that's what they told me. Sometimes it takes a little discipline to support my LMS.
