Hey so i just stumbled upon a virgin relic... a pre 1967 ampeg amb 1 bass... you can check out a picture of it here... its the fretted one. AMB1

Anyways anyone know of a good place where i can have this appraised people I can send to stuff online???

This ofcourse got me thinking... I have a 30th SR and a 20SR 5 HH. Love them to death... Sold4 fenders for them... And i want a hollowbody in my arsenal. Anychance EB would custom make one for me... because I am planning to sell the ampeg one of and i guess it is worth a dime or too... Ill post pictures of mine later on when I upload them.

Anychance a hollowbody limited instrument could be on the way for EB... Its the only bass guitar EB doesnt mess with... That and basses with tremolos...

Anyways I'd appreciate some advice...

What would any of you do with something like this...

Sorry to say (for you), but EBMM doesn't do customs in the sense that you are asking and there has been no talk of any future hollowbodies.

EBMM does not have a custom shop, so no chance they'll make you one. Also the hollowbody market is very-very small, and there is proabably enough companies for that market.

But you need to either get yourself a copy of the Vintage Pricing Guide, or contact Gruhn Guitars in Nashville with very detailed pictures for an appraisal.

Bruce Johnson, the owner of the website you linked to, will be able to appraise/service/repair your Ampeg. He's recognised as "the" scroll bass expert, and also makes great replicas. Bruce worked on my ex-Rod Clements scroll bass and is well known and respected in Ampeg circles.

No offense to anyone but EB are a bit generic, i can't see it happening tbh. and what do you mean It's the only bass they don't mess with? They've never done hollowbodies, any type of neck other than bolt on, they only did single humbucker configuration until very recently and all the shapes are very similar (bar the bongo), they're for a market that knows what they want really, and to be honest i don't really think many of them want that.

Buy a hollowbody Lakland. I don't think BP will venture into a hollowbody any time soon.

I think BP and EBMM are remarkably cutting edge for being in a conservative industry. Having said this, I don't see them making a hollowbody unless it can be given a very modern and marketable twist ala Bongo.

if you want a hollowbody bass, check Lakland, but also consider the Warwick Hellborg bass or the new for 2008 Warwick Star II bass. The hellborg is an amazing bass, and I love hollowbodies, and it will be my next purchase

Have you looked at a lot of other companies out there? Besides Fender and the few companies who imitate their designs, I wouldnt call the bass industry very conservative at all.

Im just giving him a recommendation since EBMM doesnt make one

I'm just asking what type of spin Warwick would use for this particular model.

Polishing heavy lumps of diseased timber and selling them as bass guitars doesn't seem too innovative to me, since there seem to be a ton of manufacturers who have been doing that for years.

At least the hollowbody would be lighter, so there's a possible sales pitch for the W boys.

heh, its one thing to not like them aesthetically because I can certainly understand that, but to say they arent innovative is admitting one knows nothing about the company. People could very easily say EBMM isnt very innovative, but only people who dont truly care about instruments would say that, same goes for warwick. EBMM, just like warwick, does things that other companies were doing before they even existed. so what? taking only that into account isnt going to build a solid argument and is rather ignorant.

Alas, thats not the point of this thread. He wants a hollowbody, the options given are really good ones since EBMM doesnt venture into that realm of bass guitars.

Could be like the sales pitch for a certian innovative EBMM model. "No it isn't a toilet, it only looks like one.

"The Sound of a Hole In Wood" made me laugh.

I think we're venturing into recommendations for other manufacturers, though, which is okay when we're talking amps, cabs, athletic supporters, etc, but not basses - even hollowbody basses.

Im working on the "World Peace" model followed by the "Greenhouse gasses" one and then its the "Famine buster "after I tackle those (I need to meet everyones expectations)"

The Unreepentant....Whilst your delivery is chaffing my brain I agree with you....but you dont get one thing...I am not a performance artist or a juggler...Im in business and the box in which I operate in has little room to innovate signifigantly. It isnt a chicken vs the egg...If musicians werent so safe you could expect more form the manufacturers.......Even with the BOngo I had to dumb it down. Even with the Bongo I still get cheap shots..,...I wonder why someone would bring up the toilet seat to defend another shot at Warwick? That person is the poster boy for a stagnant instrument market.....After 55 years of everybody buying variations of the strat and p bass how sad is it that the Bongo was controversial? I have namm books filled with people who that put their families security on the line with a passion and desire to move the instrument forward. They are realtors and waiters now. There is nothin wrong with realtors or waiters.....

I am going to open this up to continue the discussion of why there is no progress. IF you guys decide to hijack into the tired and beat warwick bashing and bongo one page joke book than we will close it....

To answer the question.....WE will make a hollow body if there is signifagant demand....there is not currently. What a funny thread...Someone wants me to make hollow bodies because of a vintage Ampeg (which was a spectacular failure in its day....hence the rarity) The Ampeg was a fine bass but they fell victim to a vanilla public.
