I'm giving some serious thought to a lined, fretless Bongo. I plan to use it for various rock/pop/worship tunes that require a fretless groove, including some stuff that probably should be played on an upright.

I am thinking about an HS and I expect to try out the different options at a local shop, but I would like to hear from the folks here with first-hand, everyday (and night) Bongo experience.

What might I expect from the various pup options (H, HH, HS)? Are there significant tonal differences to consider?

Of course my ear will have the final say - just looking for thoughts & opinions from folks with personal experience. :)

GET THE PIEZO OPTION!!! :)

I played a HH bongo w/ piezo at the store the other day, and the piezo sounds great, especially if you want an upright vibe.

Beyond that, I leave it to the more experienced Bongo players to sound off. I personally liked the greater difference between the sounds of the pickups on the HS, but the HH sounded great too. This is all store play... I've got an SR5 myself...
(and a fretless abg for 'upright' flavored stuff..)

Thanks - I thought as much, but I am not hitting anything of value.

Found comparisons between the Bongo "sound" and the other EB basses, but nothing relative to the differences between differently configured Bongos.

I will continue to search, but having noticed there are folks among us with multiple Bongos, I was hoping to get some first-hand feedback here. :)
