Hey,

So I just won an auction at a local Pawn shop here in Sweden on what I hope is a real MM Stingray. Pawnshop obviously listed the auction as an "authentic" one.
The neck "checks out" as far as I can see from the logo as well as the "Made in..." text on the back. Hardware is also marked with "Music man". Bridge says "Pat. pend.".
Body has been refinished and the neck plate is sadly not original. It kinda looks like the neck plate has had another shape earlier (more of a V-shaped, I can see some contours on the body). Electronics are switched out as well.
Here comes my problem: there's no serial number to found.
1. Neck plate has been switched out
2. Serial number is not present on neck
3. Serial number is not present on the bridge hardware

Unscrewing the neck has yielded me nothing and the only potential identifier I've found is on the bottom of the neck where a signature reading something like "5-25-M (or OK?)" can be found (and a name-like scribble).

Could someone help me put together the pieces? 😅 I understand I won't be able to find a serial number and I don't really mind, but it'd nice to know if it's at least a "real" MM and also if someone has any clue about what year-ish it was made.

Thanks for all the help and let me know if there are more/other images I can attach which would tell something about the bass!

I think the body is older than the neck. If it works reliably and sounds good, just clean it up and keep it as is.

As it looks to be a slab body, it maybe pre EB too, but the truss rod cut doesn’t add up, so that may have been modified too. As the OP has mentioned, refinished, looks like the original colour may have been red.

If you can gently remove the white finish from the neck pocket there maybe a date there to answer the age of the body.
