Need help to find a suitable amp.

Hello again

As you all may have noticed am I looking for a good tube combo. Im in a bit of a hurry since ive got a gig in about 2,5 weeks!

I'm thinking of the Laney VC 30 but then again it hasn't got the sort of distorion that i want.

Maybe i will go for the Laney but i will try one last time to ask u guys.. I've only got about 500$ to spend how would u spend
them if u were me?

I play everything from Counting crows to dream theater...
And i would love to get that "fender" tvang from the coils on the LUKE to.

Feel free to give me suggestions.. and a soundclip of the amp would be absolutely great to.

Well.I have a Peavey Prowler as my prctice/back up amp.
It sounds great (for a combo)
It has 3 12ax7 pre's and 2 6L6 power tubes. 2 channel, plus a boost in the crunch channel for witch you can select just a volume boost or a gain boost on top of the volume boost. The clean channel has a bright switch and sound very very good.
I would recomend an EQ like a Boss GE7 or something as the dirty channel neds a little help in the mid frequencies.
It is discontinued but fairly easy to find used and cheap.

Well, for $500 bucks it's going to be pretty tight. How "loud" does the amp need to be? You can get a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for a little more than $500 which will give you the cleans you need but you'll need a good versatile pedal for the overdrive stuff.

Maybe a used one and something like the Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde pedal will give you what you need?

I've heard a few good things about Traynor amps, but I haven't tried one myself...

But then again, you can probably throw all of my prices out of the window as you're in Europe...

Peavey Ultra 212

if you can find one, it will be worth it.... 3 channels, all tube.... VERY nice clean.

it's 60 watts and the distortion channels are very crunchy and very versitile

I agree with the WargMan! Those amps are kickarse. I should've thought about that when I was searching out my current piece.

For under 500 bucks, you can get a Peavey Classic 30. It has an outstanding clean sound, but it can also get really good heavy sounds with the gain cranked. It has a "Boost" button, but I prefer the sound with the gain cranked and the boost button off.

It has two footswitchable channels, with a footswitchable spring reverb. If you would put a Tube Screamer in front of it on the dirty channel, you can get real close to the sound of the Crunch channel on the 5150 combo. It kind of sounds like a cross between the 5150 combo, and a Marshall DSL 401.

I highly recommend this amp for under 500 bucks.

I'd imagine so, except for the obvious volume/projection differences when you're talking about a difference in the number of speakers. The thing that makes the Ultra series - imho - is the preamp, which is just a killer circuit. Peavey really did get it right with that amp!

I never had an issue plugging into that amp. Definitely a winner in my book as I'd stated before. Interestingly anyone know if PV is putting out that george lynch brama amp?

I agree with Jimi D. They even have a head for the ultra series.
