Need info on string height, MMJP

i have a jp model, it always feels like i cant get any sustain, "just for the sake of testing, even if i put my gain on 10, i cant get pinch harmonics, sustain. I did not have this problem when i had an rg before, now looking at the spacing between the strings/pup, it seems like alot, the pups are mounted so I cant adjust. when pressing at the 24th fret, i measured 4mm distance, when not pressing anything, the distance is like 7mm.

any advice?

Hmm I have 4 mm unfretted...how high is the action at the 12th fret? You can adjust the pups a touch by adjusting the individual pole pieces, using the right size allan wrench. If your action is too high you can lower it, that way you can get closer to the pups.

if you think about it the action shouldnt effect the output of the pickups once you fret the note you have moved the string as close to the pickup as you can get it without raising the pickup . sounds like a wiring problem to me or a bad pickup . could be a bad cable also.

trying a new cable is the FIRST thing ya wanna do.....
seems like a no brainer.....but.......i've overlooked it before...thinking my tubes were finially going....or whatnot.
cables can go go bad....& still work enough that they are overlooked.....

i use to be able to get a guitar cable that had a double conductor for the hot...& a great shielded ground....w/ switchcraft quality ends ......that came in lots of colors...made in the us ...... from somewhere. i LOVED them !!!!! but then they changed to one color...one conductor......w/ an L jack that has a split head that always loosens , and dissapears in travel
i still use them though.......i crazy glue the seem in the top of the L jacks.
then when they do break....i use your replacement L jacks ....which don't have a split head.

if it's not your cable.......you may also have a bad ground in your guitar wiring.

The reason I asked was because 3 mm travel is almost 1/8" so think about that amount of vertical displacement over such a short distance, from the bridge to the 24th fret. Try it yourselves...imagine the distance from the bridge to the pup, now the string has to drop 3 mm or 1/8" at that point...now ask yourself how much does it have to drop at the 24th fret to achieve that distance? When I fret at the 24th, I'm lucky if I see .5 mm movement , yet he has 3 mm or 1/8"
As it is now his pup to string spacing is about 9/32"...that's the reason, I asked, it was simply about his action height.

Aint that the truth! I've had many experiences with that!
I was tweaking my daughter's guitar just the other day and when I got to the part of getting it in tune........the Cable!!! It's actually fairly new too.
