I've been playing the same Genz rig for the past two months now and I like it. But I just don't think I'm getting the most out of it. I'm not enjoying it like I think I could and I think I'm ready to move on. It has a great defined sound, but the it just isn't boomy enough for me and doesn't have the highs I want. Lately I've been looking into getting back into GK, trying Mesa, and even *gasp* considered Ampeg. Oh the amps I've owned GK always sounded best to me, but then again, I've only really owned Genz and GK rigs, and an Ampeg and SWR cabinet.

So now I'm thinking of trying something completely new. I'm up for any input. I prefer 6x10 cabinets or 4x10 and 1x15s and enough power to be able to play medium to large venues. So give me some input on what to consider and what to try out. I'm open to any ideas. The Mesa really has my eye right now, but I never got the full GK rig that I had intended on getting before, but I'm also warming upto SWR.

Sounds like you're committed to the "all in one" head route rather than a pre/power rack, so I won't comment on the amp side of things. As for cabinets, I'd be test driving an SWR Henry the 8x8 if I were you.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - check out Schroeder cabinets! If you haven't heard about these, check out the Schroeder mega-thread over on the talkbass amp forum. I have the 21012 and it is seriously loud!

Ebs!!!

Has any1 of you ever tried any EBS product...

In my playing history i have tried almost everything (ampeg, SWR, EDEN, Peavey, Yamaha, GK, Hartke, Fender, Marshall, H&K, ect...) and now i'm settled with an EBS Fafner head and EBS 311 cabinet.

if you don't know what it is try www.ebs.bass.se that is their official site.

For all I can say it's the most versatile amp that i have ever tried with unbeliveble deep and defined sound. You can play every kind of music with it. Some might say that is a slap amp but that is only becouse slap has never sounded better.

Right now EBS is the most advanced bass technology. If you don't beleve try one.

P.S. i'm not a EBS dealer :)))))))))

Mobay speaks the truth. Look into Schroeder cabs. I've only got the 1210, and it's ridiculously loud--I can only imagine the ear damage that the 21012 is capable of unleashing....

My 1210 is all the cab I'll ever need, and I don't even have to carry it:

The 21012 can get LOUD, but the sound is very defined even at high volumes. I keep it under control by only using 1000 watts to power it. :D

I'm going to try to get some stage pics of my rig this Saturday night. We're playing at Division One in Arlington, TX.

I've been using a Fender Bassman 800 Pro head

Those are the first Fender bass heads in quite a while that made me think, "Oh, well, look at that." Glad to hear someone is using it and likes it.

I still find it hard to beat this monster:

Plug one of those into a couple of Ampeg classic cabs and - whew.

One thing I learned with Musicman basses is to shy away from an amp with a graphic EQ. Any amp that I've used with a GEQ & MM I set it almost flat. The Fender Amp I use has a parametric EQ & works well with a MM.

I don't believe I have ever actually engaged the EQ on that Sunn.

Well, I did, really, once or twice, but it was completely useless for my purposes.

So - I agree.

My personal favorite bass sound is an Ampeg V4 head driving a 2x15 cab and a 1x18 speaker cab simultaneously.

The amount of air moved by this combination can push things around a room.

This could explain a lot of my hearing loss... ;)

I'll have to say EBS
I haven't owned much (because I only play for about a year or 5), but I have tested really a lot before I bought my EBS Fafner, and it was simply the most versatile, best sounding amp. I don't know where you live, but I believe EBS is really epensive in the USA. I live in Belgium, I still payed a lot for it, but it truly is worth i :D

Well i got a good price from a local dealer but still i had to give 2300 Euro for this combination. I live in Belgrade, Serbia (imagine) :)

EBS stuff is quite expensive in USA so many bass players there go for the cheaper amps and cabinets.

But as i said, EBS is the most advanced bass amp technology
