I've currently got my guitar in an HSS setup with Duncans and I'm facing an issue with this guitar I've encountered before.

It's my Music Man Silhouette Special and I've got an STKS7 in the neck, a STKS4 in the middle, and a Brobucker in the bridge.

I'd been using DiMarzios in this guitar for a while and switched it to Duncans for the specific project/band I'm in right now. Problem is, this guitar is on the bright side as the body doesn't have a whole lot of mass compared to a Strat or a Tele, and I preferred DiMarzios because they helped fill out the sound of the overall guitar. I liked the clarity and slightly more vintage flavor of Duncans and most of the good clips I heard seemed to be what i wanted.

However, now that it's set up and running, the guitar has gone back to being on the bright side which is not what I want. Duncans just don't seem to like this guitar, at least not what I've tried.

I need the clarity and definition of the Duncans, but I need the power, full-body punch, and drive/natural compression that DiMarzios have.

Previously I'd been using a Tone Zone in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck. I've got a Norton lying around I can use as well.

What do I need? Do I need to look at a different set of Duncans? Go back to Dimarzios? Something else entirely, like BKPs?

I also think I'd like to move into blade-style pickups (or SC-sized buckers, if you prefer that term) for the neck and mid slots. I dial in my sound around the bridge pickup and when I switch over to a neck single I lose too much punch and drive.

For reference, here's the band I'm playing with at the moment if you need a context for the tones: https://soundcloud.com/sterlingband

There are no doubt other options that will achieve a similar result, but the DiMarzio Air Zone is a great pickup for a thicker, beefier, bridge HB sound. I have one in one of my Silo Specials.

A heavier string gauge will also help.

I tried an Air Zone once - didn't care for it. Smooth but not aggressive enough. I preferred the Tone Zone.

I play .010-.052 on this guitar.

blades/humbuckers wise - don't forget to check out David Allen pickups - he's got a nice set that would do the job, and you can email him directly to figure out the best 'fit' for your guitar :)

I'm really loving the Dimarzio transitions... Also, if you want to stick with Duncan, I've had stellar luck with the Custom Custom.
I have em in a silo special and its my best sounding guitar, theyre really quiet under high gain as well...

I actually did audition a CC in my EBMM a while back. ou can read about it here: My Custom Custom review.

In short, cool pickup but I'm gonna need something bigger and fatter sounding if I'm to stick with it.

Bareknuckle Painkiller!!!! ;)

...I'm looking into that one, along with the Warpig and the Crawler.

Suhr DSH+ in my bridge, Air Norton in neck. Love it!!!

Hadn't looked into Suhr stuff yet... will do.

DiMarzio PAF Pro

I've had one of those... prefer the Air Norton.

It is an HSS guitar but I was thinking more single-sized stuff for this band in the neck, like a Satch Track or Air Norton S.

I've heard that the warping is really really dark

It sounds beefy and huge in the BKP soundclips. That's kind of what I want, as my SS needs that reinforcement in the low end.

The pickup i stuck with for the longest in that guitar was a Crunch Lab when I was playing more metal-ish stuff and it was awesome but a little TOO high output for my needs. But it definitely did sort the lows out nicely. Before that I had a FRED and a Tone Zone and those both worked well.

I may Drop in a Norton for the time being as I have one sitting around and then go from there.
