Short bit of background:
I've always wanted to play a fiver but I've tried many (including a sweet SR5 from Aaragorn) but I must have a mental block against five strings to match the dexterity issues... anyway, the five strings throw me bad.
One of the groups I'm playing with have been after me for some time to go to a five, so I'm thinking a 4 banger done BEAD might be the trick. I've strung up another of my basses this way and it seems to be working out ok for me.
I want to use a good bass (hence my desire to string my Sterling this way
) and the HS seems like a great candidate for my circumstances. So that brings me to a string choice. Any suggestions on a set (type and guage) to maximize the "tight B" with the 34" scale length but not over exert the truss or the narrow neck? I realize a set up will be in order and that doesn't bother me. The other bass wasn't a problem.
I don't want to waste a lot of $$ doing experiments if I can glean past knowledge from others
Any suggestions? Any pitfalls?
