today I made a test, recording the luke and the 20 th on the same song...

I think the luke sounds great...but the 20 th sounds even better, and most of all it's very inspiring and makes me play different, and I like it.

the only thing is that I get used to let my right hand on the middle pickup when I do fast picking, and the pickguard is helpful to compense the space between the body and the strings...

so...the fact that the 20 th is HH without pickguard gives me a pain in the right shoulder...so I can't play it as my main guitar...but it sounds magic !

maybe should I try to get something between a 20 th and a silo pecial ?

anyway...here are the samples...notice the difference of playing...much more ideas with the 20 th !!!!

blues with the luke

blues with the 20th

stupid remark but why don't you have a (transparent) pickguard installed on your 20th (something a la Y2D)?

Double sided transparent tape to be sure you will not damage the guitar if it's not what you want and want to remove it

First, in no way would I alter my 20th.

Second - the song sounds very good with either guitar.

Third - have you tried a regular Silo (HSH)? I always thought one of those would suit you well.

Fourth - oh yeah - Why not just try adjusting your technique a bit? The 20th is by far my favorite EBMM ever - and there are lots of well respected people here who also think it's the cat's meow (BP & Pete, to name just a couple). Just learn to play differently with different guitars - it can be troublesome - but it pays off in the end as the door opens up to playing anything comfortably. My two cents.

Fifth - please keep posting clips and vids!;)

Dude, not to sound like a *ick, but you swapped your pickups. I think that is an alteration.

Let me explain. No. Let me sum up (or rephrase): I would in no way permanently alter my 20th. No mods that could not be easily undone - or potentially harm the finish of the guitar - such as with an adhesive or screwed on pickguard. And for the record, the original pickups are back in. :)

mmhh, very difficult, but I like the Luke-tone very much - is it the single coil you play? It sounds very crispy. The 20th is much warmer.

Hey, Tristan. First of all, your playing is phenomenal. Second, both clips sounded very good.
But I detected a little more spunk in your playing, almost as if you seemed a tad more inspired to play, with the 20th clip. And I think that if a guitar is going to get that much more out of you because you simply enjoy playing it more, then perhaps you can work out the kinks with the technique to help alleviate the shoulder pain.
BTW, to me the 20th clip sounded better.............but I'm biased:D.

ok, a few days later, I talked with big poppa, he thinks about putting a clear pickguard too...but I realized I really need to get a middle pickup to put my hand on it...so next one would probably be a siko HSH...
