Hey guys. I need your opinion on a potentially strange situation. My 2 main guitars (both axis) are out of commission for a little while. One of them developed a weird neck problem and the other one cracked. They are currently in the process of being repaired by EB's fantastic staff. When I don't have an Axis to use, my Steve Morse Y2d becomes my go-to guitar. So I've been using that one for the past few gigs, while the other 2 get fixed.

Here's the weird situation. Next month, we're opening for Deep Purple in France. My question is: Do you think it's totally lame for me to play the Y2d on a gig opening for Steve Morse? Am I making a big deal out of nothing, or should I just use another guitar for this gig?

What do you guys think?

Hello

As a Frenchman, I can tell you that most of the people in the audience will not notice ... they will think that you play on a Strat !
Sadly, in France, it seems that people know mostly the F and G brands.
I am playing on EBMM since 2001 and I am always surprised to see how few people know the brand.

Thus, play your Y2D. You can also ask Steve to play an Axis ...

really not a big deal in my opinion, worst case scenario and depending on where and when you will play I can lend you one of mine :)

offering that after seeing your fantastic cover of Abbey Road medley ;)

Honestly richie I think Steve would be honored that someone is using his signature guitar and no one in the audience would notice only the guitarists. Just use it , it's a great guitar.
Oh yeah and have fun and stop worrying you do get to play in front of all those people and open for deep purple.

Big deal out of nothing - the audience will love you for it!

Of course your comfort on stage means everything to your performance. If you'll really be uncomfortable with a Morse, use the Silo Special. As a backup, Tommy will have more than enough Morses backstage you can borrow. ;)

Oh, and by the way, your tour won't exist without pictures. :D

It would be like a tribute to Morse himself, so go ahead. It is a killer guitar, so I really see NO reasons at all to avoid using it!

Thanks guys. I guess I was getting worried for nothing. I will proudly play my purple Y2D and look forward to the moment where we run into each other and say "Hey....nice guitar!" Hahaha

Thanks,

Richiesos,

I can't think of a better time to use your Y2D to be honest.
I completely agree that Steve would be stoked to see that guitar in action.

Congrats on a very cool gig with a very cool guitar!

...oh yeah...pictures...or it never happened!:D

Cheers,

Tom

Definitely not lame! People will see a great player with a great instrument. Steve designed a fantastic guitar and you playing it will only acknowledge that fact. I wish I could be at that show.

Lame...you are doing what 99% of us on this forum would give our right arm to be doing. Have an awesome show and enjoy the great opportunity. I have seen your you tube vids and you are very talented.

hahahaha!
Also, and this is obvious...play half a dozen DP covers in your set. What could go wrong?
Love this thread Richie. Enjoy the shows and the time off stage as well.
