the best tone is the opening riff after screaming kids in the second track. As for lead I like the first one better. I have a small suggestion for you - in my honest opinion you are using to much gain sometimes and the sound becomes a little bit fizzy.

I actually like the amount of gain in the second one, but the first has more midrange, which I like. I'd say add some gain to the 1st and it will sound killer. If you choose to go with the 2nd, I'd say "de-Satch-ify" it,

A bit hard to compare. Would you consider recording a the same song twice, once with each setup?

I like both tunes. The first sounds like the Silo. The second one sounds like it could be an Axis. For my tastes the rhythm guitar for the second track was a bit fizzy, though the playing is excellent. The second track reminded me of something Gary Hoey might have done.

Always love your posts. Keep up the good work!

The first track sounded fantastic. Sounded like George Lynch with a bad case of the blues. And I mean that in a positive way.

On the second track I think you had a bad combination between the rythym track and the lead. The backing guitar was kinda fuzzy and didn't do justice to the great guitar playing. I would say either modify the lead sound to be more fluid with the backing track or change the backing guitar to mesh with the lead.
I think the lead was cool, you had some nice pinched harmonics going on.

I like them both! Maybe a slight preference for the Engl one, but that's probably because I like that tune more. When are you coming over to gig in the UK?

Isn't it amazing what software can do these days? Amplitube 2 sounds very good and I use Guitar Rig 2, which is similar, for my (amateur) recordings. A few years ago you wouldn't have thought a PC could get that close to a real amp sound.

Maybe, tristan, it would have been better if you didn't tell us which was the amp and which one was the software solution.

I like the Engl sound better. I think you have gotten nicer sounds out of the Amplitube 2, like all the sounds on "Cybeau." The sounds there are fantastic.

Do you record the Engl at low volume like when you make your video clips?

excellent idea...so :

engl

amplitube

let me know ;)

Engl for sure, cuts through much better.
It may be in the mix (Amplitude lead level sounded lower ?), but the higher mid levels of the Engl provide a clearer and more intense "voice".

There were some hints in the amplitube that, if tweaked, could provide a really cool option.
Was actually not a bad sound, but not suited to bluesy stuff.

The sound of your Engl is more defines and more warmly.

Whereas that e Amplitude 2 is colder but there is a tintillement métalique which I like

Thanks for a second shot at the comparison. I think that I blind test would have been the ultimate. To my ears I find that the Engl track cuts a little more, has a little more attitude. But, the amplitube track was smoother and worked better for the faster legato (tapping?) passages. I'd suggest that for fast playing, go with the Amplitube, and for the more raw and emotive playing go with the Engl.

What has impressed me the most is that it will sound like you no matter which one you pick. You've got guitar skills, but you also have some great production chops. You could probably play right into a cheap sound card, and you would still sound awesome. It's a matter of recording and playing skills more than the technology. You are the master.

+1 on the ENGL sounding better. Playing (of course) is great on both, but I like the tone on the ENGL track better and it sits much better in the mix.
