Just got me a double hum stingray and I'm looking your thoughts on :
-amp EQ settings,
-pickup config...which do you prefer(I'm leaning towards the classic single hum),
-making it sound good with wireless,
-strings you like(the ernie ball strings are ok, but I'm going to try some other brands...up next, regular light XL's)
-mods(I am thinking I might install a button to disengage one of the front pickup coils...see if it will give me the single/hum tone, also...I might replace the volume with a pickup blend switch(I always use a pedal volume)

my gear :
double hum stingray
Sure wireless(PGX)
GT 6B
planet wave cables
George L cables

Hi SFT, I like positions 1 and 4. I have been experimenting with 3 + two distortions in series lately and trying to uncover good knob settings.
For strings I use Daddo Chromes.

You might want to look into some of those vinyl sticker flames.

Hey, they're not for everyone....but they might be for us.

Doesn't your double-hum basically do the single-hum thing anyway? Why are you looking to mod? What is it _not_ doing for you?

ps. I think you all are coming to MD next month, I might come see :D

The only options the double hum SR offers , a far as pickup config go, are two coils....or ALL the coils, there is no three coil position(like the now common single coil in front and humbucker in back config being offered in a lot of basses..like the Bongo...and my Tobias). That system usualy comes with a front to back blend switch.So...I figure that a single ,tiny button or toggle to kill one of the front coils should , in conjunction with position #3 give me that effect.And....if I replace the volume pot (which I sincerly NEVER use) with a blend pot it would make the mod complete without ,in any way, changing the sound the bass has right now.

It wouldn't be hum cancelling, so I dunno if you would have a problem with noise or not. I think the H/S stingrays have a dummy coil under the pickguard or something. Sounds like you need to sell yours and buy an H/S model.

My Bongo H/S doesn't have a dummy coil and I get by just fine without one.

I think his plan is sound, even if it isn't very popular.

If he got an H/S, then he wouldn't have the H/H options anymore, would he? :D

There are times I wish the Bongos had coil taps. But, after 7 knobs (with piezos), it's time to say enough is enough, too.
