So I'm all MM since '07 and somehow I've never got a Sterling. Sunday I was surfing over at the other place and couldn't stop by without checking out the sale section, and bam it was absolute love at first site.
I'm stuck in the one in one out mode so I presented the seller ( just outstanding guy btw ) my BFR Roasted Bongo for his BFR Sterling. We agreed Sunday night and today both have new basses, I love cyber space when
it morphs into reality. And while it was tough letting go of my Bongo, this baby is settling in just fine.
Glad I read the recent Sterling love post to plant the seed. Got to move some air today, whew might be a svelte body but man this bass has big sweet tone. These are the sellers pics he let me put up as mine are no match. Had to put up some quick pics and get back to tone exploration.

That is gorgeous. Congrats dude. I was seriously eyeballing that one as well but, alas, I can't afford another bass at the moment since I just got my Big Al not long ago.

Mind you, if that had been a Bongo 5H in True Gold with RW neck I would have sold body parts to get it - though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be the only one.

Anyway...that is one sweet Sterling. Sterling's are awesome and definitely deserving of big props.

Enjoy!!

probably won't, but I pretty much can't say that with a straight face anymore, duly noted

That neck is unbelievable!!!!!! Congrats......

Love that rosewood neck! Awesome looking bass.

Thanks gents, yeah the neck was the first hook as soon as I seen it. I noticed the switch is a little funky, I'll have to call CS, as I don't think this is normal: in the 2 & 4 positions the switch can click twice, it's almost like a 7 way instead of a five way. Also the four position drops volume drastically, I know it's just the back coil and the phantom coil but is that normal ?
Of course I know can dial up the eq but if that's normal I'll just toss going there. But the I'm digging this bass big time. It definitely has the most powerful bridge pickup I've ever played.

There is a small vol drop due to going from two coils eg the back H to a single. EQ and the vol gets past that though.

Yep, couldn't ask for a more flawless trade or a better member to do it with (I'm Bottoms_up! over at the other place BTW...I should've kept that handle when I joined up here). Just a stellar transaction in every aspect!

More importantly, after nine 'Ray 4's, two Sterling 5's, two S.U.B. 'Ray 4's, and two SbMM SB14s, I am now a Bongoloid for the very first time! What a sweet sounding and playing instrument!

Didn't want to hijack this, so check out my sister-thread. :D

Great snag !

I have three HS MM [2 SL, 1 SR] and all
three have a definite volume drop at the
4th click. In a way, it's a righteous thing,
cuz if you wanna solo the bridge coil but
still want it to sound like a bass, the EQ
hasta be boosted more than in any other
PU setting, which acoarst also pumps up
the overall volume [with very little need
to crank up the actual vol knob]. If you
wanna play the ticky-tacky sound of the
soloed bridge coil then, yeah, you prolly
wanna crank up the vol knob.

Thanks all, the neck is unbelievable, just a sick piece of rosewood, I treated it with some Fret Dr. when I got as it was a little dry, and it just lit up. Best of all it's not just a looker, no surprise of course, like all MM's it's a great playing neck.

Golem, thanks for some info on the 4 position, I just never seen that kind of drop, it's certainly fine when you pump up some eq, your point is well taken, I ordered a new switch from CS today, because of the double clicks in the 2 & 4 positions when I take to it my tech I'd going to ask him to wire the 4 position to be the 1 and 3 coil.
