The TC Electronic RH 450 arrived yesterday. I was on a business trip so I did not get a chance to play with it a bit until this morning.

I've played with it for about an hour but my first impression is WOW. This is definitely an upgrade from my Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0. I'm running it through the Genz 3.0 10" cab and with exception of G# though A# that resonate like hell (This is a speaker/room problem) it really sounds great. Getting the sound set up is pretty easy... but bear in mind I work in IT so anything that is remotely intuitive is like a breath of fresh air.

Having the pre-sets is really great and very help full in finding the right sound. Basically I set up #1 as all flat and no tube or compression. I then set up #2 for a warm solid rock sound and #3 for slap. When setting up, its really easy to save the current settings and switch back to #1 to do a quick comparison. That makes it really simple to get an initial setup. The TubeTone adds a really nice warmth. Going slightly into overdrive sounds really good but anything above 3:00 does not seem to harmonize well with the 25th. On my fretless project bass I can go almost all the way before the sound becomes useless. The SpectraComp really improves the sound when slapping. Please bear in mind that I dont have much experience with compressors. I simply have not taken the time to get my head around how the settings of a compressor stomp box effect the sound. The SpectraComp make using a compressor very simple. Only one knob to turn. If it dos not work fo you that you are out of luck. For me it works fine.

I think TC have done a great job of making the RH450 idiot proof. It took me less than a minute to dial in a good sound with it. In comparison, it took me an hour of tweaking on my Line 6 Bass Pod Live to get a good sound dialed with my old bass, with the 25th I gave up after 15 minutes.

Like they say... "you get what you pay for"

I'll have to wait until Sunday to set it up in the band room and Monday to see how it hold up in a band setting. It sounds promising though.

If there is interest, I can file a rookie review (I dont have much Amp or playing experience) next week.
