So I have been trying some different rigs to play my Axis guitars through and it must be said I have been very pleased with the journey!

So I played at our weekly open mic last week, and Kirk who fronts the band has taken to recording it every week. So this is the track that he chose to mix down:

So here is the challenge - what amp do you think I am playing through here? It's not my Line 6 Duoverb, and there are no pedals - just plugged straight in. I take the solo that starts around the 2 minute mark. The amp was mic'd with a Superlux PRA628.

Free guitar pick for whoever guesses correctly!

Well now for the reveal!

So we have had: EVH 5150III, 30 watt Orange, Peavey 5150, Soldano, JSX, Xxx, Egnator Renegade, Bongor, Peavey 6505

It was none of these though some of the guesses were close in spirit!

It was........................................

.....a Roland Cube! To be precise, a Roland Cube 80GX. No pedals, just straight in Mic'd with the Superlux Mic. I used the 'Metal Stack' settings (supposed to sound like a Peavey 5150) with some reverb.

I have had this amp for a while and been using it every week at open mic. When I heard this recording I was very pleased with the outcome!

Makes me think twice about hauling round my 70lb 2x12 combo!
