I ordered a musicman Axis from Musician’s Friend and today I finally got my Axis, which is a great thing. I have to tell you though I'm disappointed that I got an Axis with no matching head stock. I double checked Musician's Friends web site and no where on their site does it state it won't come with the matching head stock. Even the pics on their site suggest it's a standard item.

I called them and got a lot of apologies but I have to say I wish they would have notated that it comes with a non-matching head stock.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome!
Matching headstock is an extra.
Most people seem to feel that the basic headstock looks best with maple board anyway.
Pics?

BTW-you were right to contact the vendor, however, EBMM prefers contacting the customer service dept rather than posting those issues here first. The CS dept is second to none!

Sad to hear that, fella...

...though I would agree that maple fretboards tend to look better with non matching headstocks. Rosewoods, well yeah - I'd also prefer matching colour.
They should however point the options out a little more clearly @ MF ...

Thanks for the feedback. Well, after plugging it in last night there is no way I'm sending it back. The neck feels like butter and the pick-ups sound oh so sweet.

I'll take some pics soon and post it for you as requested.

Has anyone put a D-tuna on it? If so, how difficult is it/or how easy is it?

Glad your loving the Axis, it's a very sweet guitar. I prefer the non-matching headstock even more so with the maple neck.

Congrats!!!

yeh, Very naughtly of them that. I would complain and ask for a goodwill gesture to keep the guitar. They havn't delivered the advertised item.

However as said previously I'm just as happy with no matching headstock with a maple neck.

Either way it's not EBMM's fault.

Well glad you're happy!

Yeah, it is unfortunate that you bought something that was mis-advertised. Somebody should have a talk with them about correctly informing the customer.

From the MF website:
A basswood body with a bookmatched figured maple top and matching headstock gives this Music Man an especially elegant look. Its selected maple neck is attached with 5 bolts for perfect alignment and no shifting. The joint is sculpted and neck plate flush mounted to allow smooth access to the highest frets. Pickups are 2 custom DiMarzio humbuckers with 3-way switching. Schaller tuners with pearl buttons. Includes a hardshell case ($135 value).
