After a period of some months treading water with a couple of start up bands (man, I'd forgotten how much of a hassle it can be to assemble a band of strangers together from scratch) and some interesting concepts that never got off the ground, I have hit paydirt in the past few weeks.

First, I scored a fill-in gig with an excellent guitarist/singer/songwriter guy and got to play on stage with a horn section for the first time in my life.

Then, on the weekend I was contacted by Australia's answer to Bonnie Raitt - a smokin' hot blues/rock slide player who has a cult following in this country. She was after a new bass player and heard I was in town and available, and now I'm in her band. Next month we're on the bill at a big outdoor blues festival, so I'm feeling right at home, and literally blown over to be playing in this awesome musician's band.

All this thanks to MySpace and other online networking. Just a handful of years ago I would have been driving all over the city pinning paper ads on music store notice boards and waiting for the phone to ring.

So, between Richard and Christina's bands I have enough gigs to keep me busy without it becoming a chore. Not that playing with musos of this caliber would ever be a chore.

Check out Christina's tunes on her MySpace - the lady sure can play. I'm a very lucky bass player indeed to have been in the right place at the right time on this occasion.

This internet thingy is pretty cool.

Way cool, Mark. Let us know when you tour the U.S. After all, the West Coast isn't that far. ;)

Very ! Not exactly my kind of music, but Christina sounds very professional. Congratulations!

I guess the DD Bongo won't exactly fit that style... so it's the 30th you're taking on stage?

Well, I know for a fact that Bongos cope quite well with the blues, but you're right, the 30th Anni Ray would be a better fit with a big outdoor blues festival than a Martini Olive Green Bongo. I will be trying to utilise my fretless Stingray as well, as I've had good experiences playing blues with that baby. Not to rock the boat, but my '66 P will be getting air time for sure as well in this band. Christina has a bunch of old beat up Strats so the old P bass will fit in nicely from a visual perspective.

Sounds great Mark, although I gotta be honest here... I was looking forward to more pictures with the hair and spandex band! ;)

Good score Mark. I've been aware that for some time you've been struggling to find the "right one" so let's hope this is it. And the Dargie Bongo might just appeal to the blues police, who knows?

I wouldn't questioning the ability of the Bongo to sound right for blues, but was thinking ahout the looks.

You're a brave man! It will probably take me a couple of decades until I'm confident enough on the fretless to take it on a stage...

Christina has a bunch of old beat up Strats so the old P bass will fit in nicely from a visual perspective.

Maybe that Rolls Burgundy Bongo would look quite cool and fitting as well...
