You've made a good decision. Pretty much a bass that can do any gig, much like your HH Bongo. Having said that, I've found the fretted H models have a slightly more aggressive midrange which is easily dealt with with either picking hand position or with the EQ. Fretless H Bongos are simply some of the best fretless basses in the world. Excellent choice! Enjoy!
I don't want to spoil it by telling you what it will be like compared to your HH Bongo but I'll just say.....You're in for something different! Let us know your reactions.
My first recommendation is to put some Cobalt strings on there. Also, don't be afraid to turn down the treble and mids....or the volume control.
I have the exact same Bongo and I LOVE it! I've had an HH, which I also loved, but the simplicity of the single H (and the killer tone) make it my fave of the two. The factory strings were way to bright for my taste, so I laced her up with some flats. Even with the flats, it has plenty of zing.
My only Bongo 1H is an FL-p, so I don't really
know the sound of a bass like yours, but I do
know that I don't in the least miss the second
MM PU. I've had 4 and 5 string fretted Bongo
HH, and you just don't need that many coils
to get what a Bongo is all about. As already
posted above, describing tone is pointless vs
the wondrous sooprise you're about to enjoy !
