I just bought this bass (4/23/14) from the Guitar Center Platinum site and while it is brand new (pristine), according to the serial number it was built in January 2011 (confirmed here).

It's a bit baffling because I was told here that this color was only made one year (assuming 2011), but Guitar Center has 11 of these bases for sale today on its Platinum site. So I'm a bit confused;

Did they have them in storage?
Have they just not sold (I'd be surprised, this is an awesome bass)?
Did they not sell them for a reason?

Anyone have any ideas?

I thought that I bought a brand new 2014 bass and now I understand it to be a brand new 2011. NOS I guess :). I'm certainly fine with that, just a bit surprised.

They had a special run made by EBMM and have been slowly selling them off.
I picked up the first two shown on my siggy list from the Platinum site.
You should have seen how many there were a few years ago.

Got pics?

Stock control, pricing, and salesmanship at GC are chaotic.
But it does result in some amazing deals. I got my SR30th
after it hung for 2 yrs, for less than the price of a standard
base model 2-band. The local GC still has one Classic like
yours ... it's been hanging forever, and will hang a looong
time further, since it's tagged $2600. I once pointed that
out to them and they retagged it at actual selling price but
then it somehow got re-re-tagged back up to $2600, even
tho anyone can buy it any day for about $1800. Someday
it will go on clearance for about $1500. Thaz how GC rolls.

Golem, what location is that? We will have them fix the pricing.

It's the Albany NY store in town of Colonie. I have, as mentioned, led them
to fix the error, which they did, but somehow it reverted. I was told that it
has something to do with items swapped/transferred between stores but it
made no sense to me. The 'episode' involving my speaking up was many
moons ago and there were a number of basses involved. Now it's a matter
of only one or two units, and I just don't bother anymore. Your turn.
