I just bought by Axis Super Sport (rosewood) a few weeks ago. It's technically new, but was made in July 2005 and has been at a Guitar Center since then (I assume) where it was being played by however many people thought an all rosewood electric might be awesome (like me!).

I know the neck maintenance instructions in the FAQ say to do the oil/wax occasionally, but I was wondering since the guitar is technically three years old, if I should just do it now.

Any thoughts? I'm new to this whole unfinished neck thing, so any tips are definitely welcome!

congrats on buying an awesome guitar!

I would definitely recomend you get a canister of Wonder Wipes Fretboard Conditioner and give the fretboard a once over with that stuff. Its a pretty amazing product IMO

As far as the back of the neck goes: I only clean the back of the enck when it doesn't feel nice and smooth. I dont base my "its cleaning time" decision on time... just feel.

So if it feels nice just leave it be. If it could use a little help I like using 0000 steel wool. I tape up the pickups w/ masking tape and give neck a gentle rub down with the 0000 steel wool. Usually that's enough to make it silky smoothe again.

Since the neck is rosewood I would guess that using the Wonder Wipes Fretboard conditioner on the neck is fine too.

Ive never used the Gunstock wax on my rosewood b/c its new and hasnt needed treatment yet - so I dont have first hand experience on how it feels on the RW ASS necks.
