OK - I have to ask, since I didn't join the EBMM family until 2004:

The Wolfgang looks to me like a blatant EVH/Axis ripoff, so when he left EBMM and went to Peavey they just modified the EVH a little and slapped a Peavey logo on it?

Or was it an agreement that let him keep the body style?

I know - I'm not really that diplomatic sometimes.

I think the problem is that both EBMM & EVH take credit for the shape.
BP and the EBMM (from what I understand) work off of their honour and a handshake. EVH has no honour so took the design with him.
From what I understand, EBMM were working on the shape before Ed was ever in the picture!?
I don't think it would have been worth it for BP + EBMM to take EVH and Peavey to court. Even if EBMM would have one, it wouldn't have favoured them in general IMO.
The world knows where the shape came from and which guitar is the best. Even EVH has admitted to the latter part.

Aynways, the horse is still dead, let's not kick it any longer! :)

I was going to say that from the above photo, it looks like a Wolf Special.

I own an EVH a Wolf hardtail and did own a Wolf Special. While I will completely agree that thematically the guitars are very similar: compact size, slightly similar (but different if you really look at them) body shape, small headstock. Yet the guitars are quite different. Both were ultimatley built for the same guy, regardless of who gets the design credit. So allowing for HIS taste in instruments, they are different.

Different: neck and radius, carved top on Wolf, pickups are different, fretwire is different, Wolf has a neck angle and an angled headstock which is only relevant on hardtail models. Don't forget the dreaded tone knob... And T.O.M. bridges aren't even available on EVH/Axis models if I'm correct.

Yes, this has been beat to death here over the years. But I suppose as long as people keep insisting that they are virtually the same guitar (yet the Wolf sucks...?) I'll keep posting the obvious differences. Differences that make it obvious to me that you could easily prefer one over the other depending on your tastes.

I love my EVH and would say that it has more of "that" ultimate tone. It's a pure joy to play and I'll never get rid of it. My Wolf hardtail has more of an all around tone and fits multiple styles a little better than the EVH. Yet both do fit a certain theme and are straight up rockers. I guess my surprise at their differences comes from the fact that they were for the same guy. Given this, they are quite different IMO.

Don't get too caught up in which one is great and which one sucks. If you are convinced that the Wolf is just an EBMM ripoff, I can't change your mind. But IMO, they really are fairly different guitars.

This was not ment to be an EVH/Axis vs. Wolfgang thred.

I found the answer to my question, it's a Peavey Wolfgang and not a new Wolfgang made by some other company.

[on this forum the wolfgang can never win :), but that don't stop me from having one]

Sorry.
I wasn't trying to do that.
It's an EBMM forum, so they have the edge!! :)

I was just curious - I was still playing my 1980's Jackson Soloists when that horse died :)

I didn't even know Musicman made guitars in the 1990's. Mr. Petrucci's move to MM enlightened me :)

I guess my response was probably more aimed at edensdad's comment. No, the Wolf isn't just an EBMM with a PV logo.

I too apologize if I contributed to the downfall of this thread. Tried to make my point without getting myred.

Play your EBMM. Love them. Live them.

Excuse me for my curiousity - I wasn't aware of the controversy or the need to maintain the purity of the thread topic.

I also wasn't aware that the topic had been beat to death. I'm not going to search thousands of threads to make sure I don't piss anyone off or resurect a topic that was previously coverd - I have better things to do with my time. I just want to chat about guitars in a respectful and friendly manner.

I've always approached this in a friendly manner, interjecting comments, knowledge and questions as they arise. Obviously I hit a sore spot with my innocent obsevation that the Wolfgang looks like an EVH, and my inquiry as to why.

It's OK to love other guitars - I love my Martins and several other electrics I own that I rarely discuss here out of respect for MM. Enjoy your Wolfgangs and your MMs.

edensdad,

No worries. I was just addressing your question. I for one am not upset.

As you can imagine the Wolf vs. EVH/Axis threads can become heated and overblown. I think we're all just trying to avoid that here.

This isn't your problem. You raised a valid question and I tried to answer it. We would just like to see this not explode.

Thanks.

Edensdad and all

I think that this is still interesting to many but not to me or most of us now. Dont take it personally but EVH has multiple forums and that is the best place to talk about him. Im livin in the present with a fondness for the future!

P.s. those solos were pathetic. So was the scissor kick....sad

I heard this from a guitar player just yesterday. Well if the factory is maxxed out then there is no need to advertise further. I like playing unique original guitars that no one knows about.
