After switching back to 4 bangers I have fallen out a little with my Sterling 5 (Even had it up on the block here with no takers). It not like there is nothing wrong with it... its just that I simply like my 25th or Reflex more.
Well my band picked up a new song in our line up and we have had to take it down from F half a step to E... Unfortunately I simply could not make the bass line work on the open strings or in dropped D... So I though "I have a solution to this!" and took the Sterling out of semi-retirement. Well playing the line in E on the B string did not really sound that great either. Too dark and boomy... Luckily my brain must be working tonight and I thought... Why not tune it up to DGCFBb and give it a try. All I can say is WOW! its like having a whole new instrument!!! The increased tension really changes the sound. Although its weird I think I will have to keep it in this tuning. Its definitely going to be gigged like this for that song.
