Hi all,

I'm a newbie who has posed a few questions over the last few months (since I've become a Stingray convert) -- but never properly introduced myself. So just wanted to say hello.

I'm a longtime player/sideman -- more groove-song-oriented than anything, playing whatever I get asked to, which has included punk and ska (when I was younger!) to soul, funk, rock, pop, and jazz. Best thing about bass is that it works in so many kinds of music.

My trans-gold-rosewood-tortoise SR5 is my new main bass. I also play a 5-string fretless acoustic alot (Epi El Capitan), a 76 maple neck P-bass, and a much-modded Rick 4000 I bought when I was 16~! The "stretch" is cause I'm way too tall. But long fingers are good.

Welcome to our little world, Bert. You will find a wealth of information on this forum as I also have found. You will see the serious side and also the not so serious side. Be blessed. :)

the trans-gold-tort IS pretty - esp for a more trad-type look. I'll take a pic and get it up. But it was the SOUND that totally hooked me. Now I've got to sell my former #1 bass, a Peavey Cirrus 5. Ah well.

thanks for the welcome. :D

6 foot 8 inches. back in the day, I'd run from hoop practice to band practice, and the jocks thought I was a deadbeat musican, and the musicians thought i was too much of a jock. The music was much more my true calling. Tho I had a pretty good sky hook!

I'll try to find a band shot to post. tho if its an old one (ie: I'm not playing the SR5) that might be blasphemous. I do sometimes feel like 'the beanpole in the back' and I knew I'd never get a job playing for Prince. But in the end, height doesn't have a lot to do with who we really are, and it's one of those things that we have zero control over. For us all, sense of TIME is what really matters!

Welcome Stretch! Very envious of your long fingers! Ain't SR's great basses? :D

My SR is great. I had no intention of buying a bass the day I got it..! But I was won over. I haven't played the 4s, but I have a friend up in Maine who loves his Sterling. I'd always thought of MMs as "slap basses" and I am not a slapper. BUT... has great fingerstyle tone.
