Hey welcome to the forum its a great place with great people to help you out. all I can say is that music man guitars are built incredible and play amazing. very comfortable to play and really are worth it. if you can get to a place to try some , go and see which ones you like and go from there. I personally love the look feel and sound of my Luke. its a really comfortable guitar to play. the axis are also great guitars play and sound really good.
but like I said go try some if you can see what you like.

go to the music man website and look at all the different models.
the luke model is the signature model for Steve Lukather.

Hey Big Paul, you're yet to hit your "prime"!!

The Axis is the guitar to have in my opinion. I play VH, Journey, AC, Foreignor, Aero, etc....; but actually ANY EBMM guitar is awesome - wouldn't play anything else!!:)

Welcome to the forum Paul , I’ve a JS1200 CA which is a great guitar but it's not in the same league as musicman guitars .
IMO Musicman offer the best value for money around at the moment , personally for the type of music you mentioned i would definatly check out the axis or the AL HH for something a little different...

Hey Paul,

Welcome to the forums. Take a look at the John Petrucci models. Floating bridge with no locking nut. But has locking tuners. Extremely stable bridge. I've got one and love it. It's probably the closest to a Satriani that EBMM has in there lineup......but better.:D;)

Welcome, Paul. Where are you from? Some of us can't help but to go into all our local guitar shops, so we can help you find a particular guitar or a shop with a good variety of musicman guitars. If you're in New England, I could post up a list. :D

Many of us have fiddled around with most of the different models in the music man line up.
We eventually settle on our favorite, but i'd say 80-90% of us are first drawn to how different the necks feel because of the oil and wax rub. Just butter in the hands.

Good luck finding a model that fits you and makes you wanna play it all the time. Lots of us here are vh and satch fans.

Welcome Paul! In addition to the MM website, spend some time looking through the forums and the pic stickies to get a better idea of what EBMM offers...

thanks for the warm welcome guys. i live in a small college town in pullman washington. PAC 10 country. we are on the boarder of idaho. the closest good place to get gear is in spokane washington witch is about 90 miles away:eek:
i know this goes against the grain but ill end up doing a bling buy with out trying out. i mean its been so long i wouldnt dare play one in a shop although i dont think it will take a long time to get my chops back. going bak to playing makes me nervous since im going to pretty much suck at first. one of my main concernsd is setup. some of you guys know rich from ibanez rules and he does some of the best setups on the planet. ill need to know the best place to purchase the axis. thanks.

Hi BP
I did the same - stopped playing for a loooooooong time and had always been a Gibson man.
Played a Les Paul from 73 till about 5 years ago. Still have it.

However when I tried out a MM Albert Lee I just had to get one and you can see from my sig , my collection has grown since.

When I started playing again I decided to learn in a different style. There used to be a great player in Cardiff called Mickey Gee (RIP) who initially played with Bill Wymans Rhythm Kings and he had a sublime picking style similar to Albert Lee's except Mickey used a thumb pic. I decided that (Albert Lee's style) was the route I wanted to go and I found the new style invigorating and challenging.

Good luck with your quest.
Incidentally I bought my first EB MM unseen and did not regret it,

You're not alone Paul. I've bought all of my EBMMs sight unseen. I'm well over 100 miles away from the nearest mainstream EBMM dealer, and our VERY small local dealer never carries any stock. That said, I've never been disappointed with an EBMM purchase. Good luck!

Welcome Paul,

I think the Axis would be a great guitar for you. It probably gets the most play out of any of mine now, as the band I'm currently in does lots of 80's hard rock.

I tried 3 of my EBMMs before buying them (the Silhouette, an AL and the Morse) but the other 5 were all bought online. I have been very impressed with every one of them, and they all get some play time.

Still looking for a AL HH and a 25th/Reflex to try, but none have cropped up in my area yet. If I see a sweet deal on one online I won't hesitate to scoop it up.

Don't dismiss the Morse. My main guitar before switching to EBMM was an Ibanez JS. Now I am a 100% Morse user. The Floyd on the Morse feels and performs better than any Ibanez I have ever played.

Good luck picking out a guitar!!!

Welcome. all the guitars are fantastic and to each his/her own. There are so many different shaped necks and many different sounds capable with these guitars. Some are more versatile than others at the moment but all that will change when the GAMECHANGER! is introduced very shortly at winter NAMM. With this advanced switching system the industry will be turned on its head and the possibilities of pickup sounds will be increased ten fold at least. The axis is a cool guitar and it will become sooo much more versatile if the gamechanger is available on it. If you don't know what the gamechanger is just search it and there are quite a few threads explaining it.
Once again welcome to the coolest music/gear forum on the web!!!
