@Mick

That's an interesting concept - by using the spacer you are making the peg protrude less through the headstock therefore increasing the angle of the string passing over the nut to the peg. Ok I get it.

Hi Guys,

Just to bring you up to date, I eventually decided the most conservative (i.e. non invasive) option was the most sensible, not least because it gave me the opportunity to change my mind in the future. So plan A is hair scrunchy, plan B is stagger set (thanks Mick for that one) and plan C is the string tree. Granted I hope not to reach plan C any time soon.

To give you some context on my decision - I've tried two brand new guitars, both exhibited exactly the same symptom. The logical inference is that returning it would likely do me no good as there was a high probability the replacement would be no different. Given that I've already spent far too many days either waiting for guitar delivery & collection / visiting the tech and without the guitar, my preference is to keep it and make a further decision if required.

I'm aware that any suggestion that there is a production/ design flaw with the guitar will not be welcomed on here - but bear in mind I'm only relating my experience as a customer - and one who loves the guitar enough to keep it despite this! It may well be that a fix *shouldn't* be needed on these guitars - but on the two I received that has not been the reality.

To re-iterate I have no issue whatsoever with the UK MM dealers service. Life is rarely perfect and frankly my focus is purely on having a properly functioning guitar asap. I hope you understand that decision even if you don't agree with it! As for the retailers, well they couldn't be bothered to call me back. Don't think I'll be spending any more money there.

Hopefully the guitar will be back soon and I can start annoying people with Led Zep again before Xmas!

Take it easy

Hi all,

Just a quick update for you. Guitar is back, complete with spacers behind the pegs to increase the string angle, and also slimmer washers on the front to ensure the string is not impeded. It has improved the symptom by a considerable margin, though I probably will still be going with a hair scrunchy when gigging.

My tech and the UK distributors are known to each other and I gather this information has been fed back, so hopefully that will in turn feed back to the US.

I must say whilst Strings & Things have been very helpful I have been disappointed in the service from the retailers, there was a discussion about meeting the bill from the tech as a goodwill gesture and I was promised a call back either that day or the next. It never came. Now even if they didn't agree with me a call to tell me that would have been a basic courtesy.

Anyway I'm very happy to have the guitar back and I doubt it will leave my hands over the Xmas hols!

Merry Xmas!
Al
