Yeah the guage on there is the one I want. I tried pushing down on the fretboard while holding the headstock then turned the rod again last night but it still didn't have any effect. I've turned it a fair bit over the last few days and it just seems to have done absolutely nothing. The wheel does still turn to the right despite being quite close to the neck though.

Umm, just a thought.........

You say "quite close to the neck".

It should be hard up against it.
You won't start reducing the relief until you've got some tension there.
(It may be that it's been wound all the way out ???)

To make sure you start from zero wind the wheel anti-clockwise (looking from the bridge) until it starts to move away from the end of the neck.
(This will prevent over-tightening if my theory is wrong)

Once you've done this, wind it back clockwise until it's touching and providing a little resistance.

NOW you can start your 1/4 turn clockwise and see if it has any affect on the neck.

Basically, if (for some strange reason) you've received the guitar with the wheel adjusted all the way out (which gives maximum relief), all your adjustments won't have achieved anything !

Good point, Dizzy! Definitely be sure there is some resistance when turning, otherwise it's not putting any pressure on the neck to straighten out...

I think this might be what was happening. When it first arrived there was enough space for the thin white washer to move around and it moved with almost no resistance. It was only last night that I actually started to feel slight resistance but I wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not so I left it. At any rate I think I'll wait for Starsky to have a look at it just in case I'm wrong ;)

Ok big thanks to Starsky, I just gave the guitar a little blast and it feels much better now! The truss wheel was just way to loose when it arrived so it wasn't actually tightening the truss rod when I was turning it. Shall post some pictures soon ;)

That's very cool of you, starsky! This forum is great for this very reason (among many others). Now we have another happy JP owner on our hands!

Post some more pics Mr. Matrix...

Ok sure thing, but bear in mind a) this was used so it isn't in pristine condition b) the digital camera makes the wear above the E string look much worse than it does in the flesh and c) I had just finished practicing so my grubby little pawmarks are all over it

Good pics!

I bet it'll polish up nicely! :D

Nice guitar, remember to wind the strings in the opposite direction on the 2 highest strings next time you're replacing them so they pass straight over the nut. That'll avoid any snagging when using the trem. ;)
