Hi,

I bought a JPX a couple of weeks ago and havent really had much of a chance to play it until the weekend, all seemed fine apart from a crack or splintering in the lacquer that emanates from the edge of the 1st fret on the low E side of the neck. Is there an easy fix for this? I'm a little worried that if I catch it with my hand then that area of lacquer might break off.

Also, where can I get case keys, there were non in the case?

Cheers,

Chris

Fret sprout from low humidity conditions. Somewhat of an invasive fix since the finish is over the sides of the fretboard. Either contact EB customer service or a local luthier who can help.

i have a jp bfr that has what appears to be an air bubble under the lacquer by the nut, i dont recall it there when i bought it. it is quite cold and probably dry in my house now, but i do keep the guitar in the case always, unless playbing or course. the frets feel as though they have sharp edges now too. is something to address / be concerned over, or will it be fine when summer comes around? (i was hoping to not have issues with wood/moisture, due to the finished neck.

Case humidifier on the cheap. Dampen a sponge, place in a ziploc sandwich bag that you have punched many holes in. Place in case. Dampen every few weeks. Will help prevent fret sprouting.

chris if you bought it new just bring it back, as that does not sound like fret sprout and more like someone knocked the guitar into something.

dmcguitar, that is fret sprout and yes the change in weather is the most likely culprit. A humidifier would be the way to go since it does not sound like you had the issue when you first received the guitar.

I've emailed the UK importer and they have asked for a photo, I fear that you may be correct, and that some careless person may have knocked the guitar before sending it to me, the other tell tale signs of it being handled are the fact that the keys are missing and there is a great long scratch across the front of the hard case covering. This was the last one at the UK importers so I dont have any chance of getting it swapped. Its only a very slight crack/blister at the monent (until it breaks off!), but I was expecting to buy a factory 'mint' guitar and keep it that way, especially at the price they sell for over here! Will let you know how things progress, thanks chaps.

Please contact customer service. They're the only people that will be able to help you out ... nothing much we're going to be able to suggest here.

Great. Well hopefully they'll get back to you soon. Nothing wrong with discussing it, it's just that there's not much we can really do about it here, and we want to make sure you don't get bad advice.
