OK, this is a popular subject.

I know I want Bodhi Blue, and the roasted maple of the recent versions is what is drawing me in! I already have an all rosewood which is killer.

Question! HH or HSS???

The HH chome looks fabulous...but I can't just buy on aesthetics!

Thanks

I see in your gear list that you own an AL HH.
Owning both, I think the LukeIII HSS and the AL HH are a great pair! They are so complementary.

It all depends on your taste-what sound you are after?
Used to have both - HH Olive gold rosewood neck and HSS Bodhi Blue roasted maple neck. Fo me, the hss is more all round guitar also I couldn't bond with rosewood neck, so the Olive Gold had to go. Many guys here will say opposite - they love the feel of full rosewood neck and HH configuration. Opinions are like... You know ;)

Well I had ordered one PDN 2014 LIII Neptune Blue HH and it sounded so killer in every pickup position I went back to the store the next day and bought almost the exact same guitar as well - well, one has a rosewood board/roasted maple neck and the other a roasted maple board/roasted maple neck. When you roll back the volume you easily get the single coil tone in the 2-4 positions, it does the job just as well as my Silo Spec single coils but with more balls (pardon the pun) in the neck position. Both are just outstanding guitars and look so beautiful.

This may happen sooner than I expected. A further guitar (non EBMM) has arrived with flaws in the nitro paint. I do not think I want to trust to try another.

I think its Luke time.

Yes, I agree. It is now officially Luke time for you. You have an all rosewood neck Albert, so maybe a roasted maple neck with rosewood fretboard is in order for your collection?

Definitely thinking the latest roasted maple! :)

I have a lot of single coil type guitars so I am still tempted by the HH, but the idea of a Musicman guitar with single coils (HSS) that is like a beefy Strat with all the Luke III goodness is tempting me.

My Albert Lee is fairly dark and warm, so I would like something more chimey and cutting as a good match up.

I went with the HSS on my Luke III PDN Neptune Blue. Very glad that I did. It is my only guitar with 2 single coils in the mid and neck so I have a lot of versatility with the sounds I get from it.

Soooo, decision time is now here. Both are available....pretty much immediately. ARGHHHHHH

I can't decide. Definitely Bodhi Blue.

I am being seduced by the modern meets vintage all chrome look of the HH. Plus every other guitar I own apart from the Albert Lee is all single coil type guitars (eg Strat/Tele/Jag). I doubt I'll ever own a LP, or SG, because Musicman are my thing, so maybe two HH guitars are a good thing!

I love single coils but I am impressed by the HH position 2 and 4 on the vids on Youtube. Does anyone have a link to clean-ish sound samples of them both?

I went with the HH model in Bohdi Blue, with the roasted maple neck. LOVE LOVE it. But really...you can't go wrong with ANY L3 axe...they are all amazing and top notch! The new Dimarzio's they put in the HH model sound so damn good!

I've had the transition dual humbuckers on another guitar with a 5 way switch. It is decent enough but no where near the same tones in the other positions with the HSS setup on my Luke III Neptune. There is just something about those two custom Dimarzio singles that sing out in a different way.
