New Music Man player

Hey everybody, I am new here. I just bought a music man axis sport. Its an older model and kind of rare (from what I gather). It is Trans-purple with 3 custom wound Dimarzio single coils. But it is brand new, my dealer couldn't move this piece for some reason and made me a smokin deal. I was just in the market to get a back up for my Tom Anderson. I think this guitar is definitely a better buy than a Fender, and better built. (though still not up to my TA
Been awhile since I had a guitar with a maple neck too. I forgot how to clean/polish it??? I'll be surfing around here checking out the posts. Anybody out there with a single coiled axis? Stop by and say howdy!

While I've had good results with a product called 'deft' [when a neck is quite worn] and certian gunstock cleaners I'd recommend going to EB's 'questions'board and follow their advise.Be shure to register if you bought new.Peace-out.

I have a TA I got super lucky to come across 3 yrs ago why lucky? I'm a lefty.

I like the TA but it was $2000 my SS was $1000 brand new from GC and I just don't see how the TA is much better than the SS the way the SS plays is awesome. However, this is the MOST important thing on an instrument, the sound, and the TA does kill it when it comes to tone but then again I haven't played a Silhouette yet so who knows?

You found a lefty TA, eh? What is it? A Classic, Cobra,Droptop...? I have a classic that is my main, but have owned many. I would like to have a Cobra one day. Anderson, builds maybe 4 guitars a week. Most other companies built 400+.
My classic has a better fretjob, pickups, finish, neckjoint, tuners...I could go on. The quality is there. Thats why there is a year waiting list. But overall, you are right 1000 vs. 2000+. Good point. My EB is a super buy and a great axe. It has it over many Fenders, Gibsons and even PRS stuff.
I have one small complaint...the Dimarzio pickups are kind of muddy..but that is minor.
What kind of stuff do you play??

I own a Classic Trans Amber. I love the pickups in the thing it's the ONLY guitar I own that has stock pickups except for the Custom Les Paul (hell yeah). These are all expensive guitars well over $2000 and they BETTER sound and feel great. The MM are cheaper and they do compare to these guitars in feel (and sometimes feel even better) but of course not in sound so it's not fair to compare because of price and workmanship. MM is an exellent guitar and I'm glad I bought my SS but until I get to try more of their other guitars I won't judge or compare because I haven't played Silhouettes . I like Basswood but I die for Alder and Mahogany and I just can't see anyone in the planet liking anything more than these two woods either. Hmmm is that why 90% of the greatest guitarists that ever lived play these 2 woods? Maybe? My favorite guitars are my mahogany Jackson Soloist and my American Fender Strat alder. Nothing can touch this things in tone except for the TA. MM is quickly becoming a fav because of the feel.

I play everything, I teach guitar and theory been playing for 22 yrs. I'm 33 now and I love to play along to cds by Greg Howe, Allan Holdsworth, Dream T. Al DiMeola and Manitos De Plata (I began playing Flamenco in Cuba) and SRV. Those are pretty much my favorite guitarists. I had a few bands in the past but no one likes to play long jams with odd time signatures. LOL

Wow. Flemenco?!! Man, I bet you smoke. I have always admired the latin/salsa stuff but have been doing the rock/jazz stuff for too long. There is this latin guitar player that plays with Arturo Sandoval. He plays a Zion and cooks like you read about!! You've listed some great influences. Al Di Meola is a m0nster.I like some of those cats too.
My TA classic (trans-blonde/indian rosewood) is swamp ash. I have never played an anderson that wasn't. I have had mostly basswood/maple configs.

Another good point about feel. The MM plays as well as many boutiques I have played. I hope to take it to a gig next week when I get it back from my tech.

Well you NEVER play any style "for too long" as long as you keep playing you're doing good. Of course as long as you don't play that nu-metal crap LOL. Sandoval is incredible but if you want to hear an AMAZING Cuban musician listen to Gonzalo Rubalcaba the piano player. That guy is disgusting, what he does is so fn' beyong it's not even funny. It's hard to say a musician is the "best" at what he does but this guy IS the best piano player that ever lived..so far. Don't take my word for it just listen and read what OTHER great musicians have to say about him. Check him out.

LOL, I better smoke I've been playing for over 20 yrs. constantly and HAD to learn theory since I wanted to teach. Once you learn theory the sky's the limit in music. But ANYONE can be a great guitarist by practicing and first of all LOVING the instrument if there's no love or passion for it then forget it. There's no such thing and there NEVER will be a so-called "natural" musician they ALL have to practice. The only thing that makes you natural is how bad you want to practice and play that's it.

Yes they make them in all woods just about. My friend has an all Mahogany that's killer. This is the first (SS) Basswood guitar I've owned and I'm not sold on Basswood, call me weird but like I said before there's no immitating a Fender Strat and a Les Paul PERIOD. And nothing like Alder and Mahogany.

Well truthfully my MusicMan Super Sport plays BETTER than most of my expensive guitars and I'm not cutting Basswood it's just that my heart belongs to Alder and Mahogany. I'll be here, it's a cool forum, later.
