Hi guys,

I just received yesterday from US the Riot and Bad horsie 2.
1. I was very anxios to get the riot, and after playing it with my JP6 through my amp - Blackstar HT 5 mini stack (head + 2 X 10'' cabs) I've noticed that the Riot drive on clean channel is not very different than the drive channel of the amp. So this amp is somehow keeping its fingerprint whatever you put in front on it (drive pedals).
and although in the video bellow Mark Day has a huge gain , with the drive knob only at 12 o'clock, on my amp with drive to max it's not even close to that hi gain sound he gets.
anyone having the Riot and a blackstar amp ? same impression?
I will try on other amps, to see (a mesa F 30 and a dual rectifier - that some friends have)
The riot is for sure a fabulous pedal, Blackstar HT 5 is very nice also for home practice and I'm thinking what to do next, buy another amp!? try to find a tube screamer to push the drive channel of the amp...cause I was hoping with the riot to have that huge and :D nice hi gain sound Mark has in that video (BTW he is using a Suhr 100 w amp...so that myght be the "cause").
YouTube - Suhr Riot Distortion Pedal Demo by Mark Day

2. the bad horsie 2 has a popping sound that you can hear it in the speakers, after releasing the pedal to its orginal position...and I read on internet that is normal , that's how the pedal is !? anyone has this pedal to confirm this sound?

many thanks,
sorry for the long post

I got both pedals on my board. The BH2 with its no switch operation will pop. You will not hear it on stage and can learn to minimize that.

The Riot is one of the best distortions, but almost one of my biggest wastes of money - but I only say that because the high gain channel on my amp (Mesa Electra Dyne) does everything for the the Riot would. However anyone needing a gained up pedal - the Riot is smokin' hot and smooth and fluid and quiet.

I want (and will, one day) to buy 3 HT5s and run a Wet-Dry-Wet stereo rig. There was a great vid on youtube a couple of years ago of Steve Morse demo'ing the same thing. The vids gone now, shame.

I think it might be due to the HT5s lacking clean channel. I believe it is meant more for the distortion side of things...therefore it might not take the pedal that well on the clean channel. I am looking to get one for my HT20 as another channel basically for either lead or rhythm tone. The clean channel on the HT20 has more headroom and does not break up that early...but still not the best clean out there. The riot sounds amazing in all the reviews and vids i've seen.

many thnaks for replies guys :)
@browndog: the ht 5 stack is great for home practice, the drive channel is very nice and it sound pretty hi gain at very very low vol level, it wah their purpose when designing it. but is not ok to put a drive pedal in front of it - on the clean channel of course
@mikkler: you are perfectly right X 2 times :
1 - I can't hear the BH2 pop when playing, only if I stop playing, so it's not a problem, and the pedal is fabulous I love it - you can dial any tone you want with that "second pedal" :D
2 -the riot might be a waste of money for me too with the amp I have now :(. I know is a great pedal, but you have to run it in a good amp I think
@ Roubster : HT 60 in my opinion is the only one of the upper range that sound pretty different and better, with HT 20 honestly you can not perceive very much difference from the HT 5. but if you need the Riot as a second lead or rythm channel , will be great I think, I love at the Riot the fact that notes are very very "clean " when soloing even with the drive knob all way up :)

I was looking for a solution to have a good hi gain sound on my HT 5 stack, but Riot is not helping at all in this case.
2 hours ago, I've tried it on the F30 Mesa combo and it sounds better comapring to the HT 5. is not hi gain neither on the F30 at bedroom level, but incresing the master vol on the mesa makes the Riot more agressive.
the riot drive is not although more "hi gain" than the drive from the Mesa F30 , although I've seen a lot of reviews that say F30 has not very much gain. My opinion in this case is it has more that riot would help to have, and it has more than HT 5 for sure and the gain is far more "pleasant", you can see why there is a "mesa hysteria" among many guitar players :p
if any other forum knuckleheads have the Riot please share you opinion about it played on your amp :)
