Black abalone on a cherryburst? Would this be too weird? Black pearloid (I have white pearloid now) instead? Or, back to the stock basic black. Clearly, I have too much time on my hands this lazy weekend!

black abalone? pretty sure that's never even been an option... whatever it is, and they don't make abalone anymore. I think plain black would look best.

black abalone?? oh it's probably not a factory one, i'd still go with black though

EDIT: EBMM just called those ones abalone when they still made them, don't think it would suit the bass very well

I bought mine Sterling 5 Black Cherry Burst with black standard PG on and it looks just fine, probably the best on that color, but there's one slight "problem" with black PG I noticed recently, after playing are visible many scratches and finger tips on it!

So, I decide in future change it with one of pearloid PGs, black-pearloid I hope?

Maybe some guys here who owned EBMM bass with one of pearloid PG could tell something about this matter!

I'm really warming to black pearloid now...I too had the same issue with the stock black; the white pearloid looks good, classic even, but the black would be so much more, uh, noir? And I could always switch once in awhile.

I just picked up a new Black Pearloid EBMM pickguard for my vintage sunburst Stringray 5-H. Gonna install it tomorrow, pic to follow.

It's a good thing personal taste is allowed during pickguard selection. I'm not a fan of the grey part of the black pearloid; in my opinion; it's the most "plasticky fake", least imprerssive. I concur with regular black, but I agree with the scratchability. Would you consider vintage white pearloid? I like it for just about everything. Hope you find a good one you like.

on a slightly unrelated (but not entirely) note directed at daddyflip, i think the orange swirl pickguard was the most amazing looking pickguard ever, yet they discontinued it, as apparently not many people agree with me. I'm rather gutted, i hoped one day to put one on a white sterling or a lava pearl bongo (again, discontinued!!) :(

I agree with you 100% and you might check around to see if there's still one available you can get now and hold on to until you get the right bass for it. I like the discontinued python, too. Since personal taste is so subjective, BP can't afford to keep the same unique stuff around forever. The ho-hum stuff has to stay; I think there will be a new batch of cool stuff soon. Stay tuned.

I had good luck asking CS for dicontinued pickgards. Try an Email to 5Stringer.

I just put an abalone guard to my tobaccoburst sr5. I think it looks cool and also will look good with black cherry...

@daddy flip: egyptian smoke with python looks great. This is going to be very rare some day.

I have plain black on my black cherry SR4 and its pretty scuffed up. From a distance it really does look classy but I have always thought that white pearl would really look sharp as well.
