New Pup Day for Silo Spec!!!

A huge thanks to Tony5150!!!! Without whom this wouldn't have been possible.

I've swapped out the Virtual PAF in my CR Silo Spec for an Air Classic Bridge. LOVE it! It totally matches my CS69s in the neck and mids! Less mids than the VPAF, a little more grit, and oddly, less compression, but a kick ass searing tone from a low output humbucker. Very open, and spacious.

Same patch on the PODXTLive, same guitar. The Air Classic has less "AW...." and more "Ehhhh". It's almost like an A5 mag low output version of the Steve's Special. And works wonderfully with the 250k pots. Better than I expected.

I can hear it. The PAf definitely has a lot more mids. The Air classic is more modern sounding. I can hear a hint of Images and Words tone there.

Yes. You're right. Less mids, more growl. The PAF is more honky, more AW and more WAH. The Air Classic is actually more agressive, but needs to be abused.

Yes, I have the Tone Zone, Super Distortion, Evolution, MeanStreets, etc. . . .
I play in a Van Halen trib, Journey trib, and classic rock hit band - and boy am I picky!!!!!

I mainly use - NORTON Bridge!!!! It's NAILS the tone!!

If I do want to get slightly heavier (i.e., Van Halen Balance) I have a P...Y Wolfgang bridge.

Do you use the Norton for alot of the classic rock hit band? I'm trying to decide on dual Breeds for my OLP MM1 (Axis copy), or a Breed in the bridge and an Evolution in the neck, but I'm concerned the Evo neck might be too harsh on clean stuff.

Well, you're talking a lot of high output pups, and you're using an Axis. Those are 500k pots. I'm not so sure the Silo Spec with my CS69s can survive another high output pup in there... The Steve's Special almost killed the guitar. Hahahaha... And they are 250k pots. I'm thinking of going the RS guitar pots route and use 280k pots.

The Evo neck isn't harsh. In fact, I like the Evo neck much better than the Evo bridge. It's a lot mre dynamic...

That's exactly what I wanted to hear! I think I'm going to go with an Evo Neck and a Norton (not Air) in the bridge for my OLP MM1 Axis copy.

Voicing-wise, I think that combo might be interesting. But the Norton is a high output pup right?
