I took my Bongo into the studio last week to start a new project with my brother and our band. We are Zak Duarte (bass and vocals), Louis Duarte (drums, percussion and vocals) Tom Reed (guitar, keys and vocals), Euan Reed (harmonica and vocals) and Fats Bennet (guitar and vocals)

The original idea was to do 3 originals and a cover for a new EP - and songs were written and studio was booked - lovely.

When it came to going into the studio the next day we missed half of the day waiting around for Fats. Then the next day he decided he didn't want to come in at all. Then the next day, and he disallowed us to use the songs we had written TOGETHER. So with 2 days left (about 12 hours studio time I think) we had some tracks with no vocals, some songs we weren't allowed to record and were extremely frustrated.

We thought - "F*** him" and did our own thing. And we managed to write and record this in about 8 hours - yes a lot of time and effort was wasted but we love what we have done. It's yet to be mixed and mastered but sounds pretty good already I reckon...and I got the perfect tone out of my Bongo!

We have more songs in the works and more studio time in a few months so an EP or possibly album will be on the way! (without Bennet!)

Cheers
Zak

I really like the song. And, I really dig the tone you are getting with the Bongo. I definitely prefer bloom and boom to thwack and tink.

I hope that Fats is no longer part of the project. The story certainly explains the song, too. :D

Cheers man, glad you like it. I suspected a Bongo would be perfect for that reggae kinda tone, and it really is perfect. Which is nice to know when you usually see people shredding and slapping and that on them.

Cheers guys! Great to hear that our stuff is appreciated!

It's just good and fun... Love it.

It's all about the fun isn't it! We had been so frustrated for days and wondered what was the point - but you just gotta roll with it and have a good time. And it should reflect in the music...

Duarte, Ya Reggae manna! :D

Good work man, I like that music genre and You and guys already have recognized sound signature anyway!
By the way, Bongo fits good in this one, I bet it was balanced to to the neck pickup for this song!

Well done! ;)

Cheers guys.

Yeah iwas panned halfway to the neck pickup 50/50 piezo but with a sock under the strings at the bridge - it really creates this HUGE and pretty damn [erfect tone.

And Fats is not going to be involved in anything we do again. Which is a shame because he can be a fun guy to hang out with.
