Hi everyone, I just got this month a new, this is my third Music Man guitar (the 4th is a used EVH that I have on layaway). First of all, the soudn, ther resonant and the playability of this guitar is incredible, I just love it (in fact I'm playing it rigth now).

After reading the tread on the Petrucci model regarding the cracks on the neck I inspected mine and I found a couple of little cracks in each side of the body of the guitar, hard to see but they are there. Is there any way to stop this to grow larger? so far no problem with the guitar but I'm a little worry about that.

Also do you know if there is anyway to register the guitar for the guaranty, this one came without one and I was wondering if there is any way to do it, also because for some reason guitar center did not have the metal arm for the tremolo complete, the platic tip is missed and I want to contact the main factory to see if I can get the plastic tip for my guitar arm.

I starter playing the music man guitars with the Steve Morse model, I just can't believe how this neck just fits like a glove, the tone and sound... just love it, I have 50 guitars and the music man are in my 10 top list. :D

Hi mcclassic! Welcome to the forum...

You can register your new guitar online here:
Music Man Guitar and Bass Registration Page

re: the cracks at the neck joint: in my experience, these little cracks are just finish cracks and you shouldn't sweat them... I've got these cracks in one of my Albert Lees and in my Silhouette, and they are purely cosmetic. EB/MM uses a really thin, really hard finish that enhances the guitar's tone, but because it's so thin and hard it tends to crack where the wood moves, and the wood moves at neck joints (particularly STABLE neck joints; if the neck could shift in the pocket, it wouldn't stress the body wood at the joint, and the finish wouldn't crack). This is typical on high-end Ibanez guitars as well; four of the seven Jems I've owned over the years had them... I think there's really been much ado about nothing with this whole neck crack issue on the Petruccis; this is a purely cosmetic thing, and EB/MM have gone way beyond the call of duty in dealing with it. But in all honesty, I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want buy a guitar they think is perfect for them (in terms of tone and weight and feel) and then ship it half-way across the world to have the body replaced because of a couple tiny little finish cracks? Sure, EB/MM have fantastic quality control and great consistency in their products, but it's still an entirely differnt hunk of wood you end up with, and who's to say you'll like that one as much? Anywa, that's My Take® on it. The usual disclaimers apply: imho, ymmv, no relation to EB/MM & etc... :D

I'm sure Derek or Jon will be able to help you with the trem arm tip...

Thanks!

Jimi D:

Thanks! what a fine answer!, you got me on everything!

Fisrt of all I agree with you, for a couple of cosmetic cracks I think it really not worth to go all the way for this to change bodies for the repair, I'm really happy with this guitar is so nice the way it sounds, resonates and plays that yesterday I pass more tha 40 minutes just loving the sound with a DGStomp pre-amp, I just love it.

On the other hand I think that trying to replace body would be a problem (I think) since the color (sparkle sunburst) has also a headstock match, also I heard that it is already discontinued, but anyway this body resonates incredible it just so acoustic unplugged...

Thank you again for a great information and the guide for registration and for ease my worries. :D

Yes! you're right!

Hi whosjec, you are correct! I'm the same guy, sorry but was just a little luck for me actually I was hoping to get the sparkle white one before and I was just looking around (as usual) when the price tag "hit me", just plug it play it and grab it.

I still have your name and phone number on my wallet, I tried the guitar, put new new strings and tried several times to see anything that I dislike to re-sell it to you as I promised in case I found it was not good to me but, man, that guitar is a killer! just love it, sorry to give you the bad news but for now I think I will keep it, the tone is so acoustic and "woody" har to to describe but the guitar vibrates beautiful.

Take care and hope to see you around in the store again, my apologies again, it was just a little luck for me that day. If you don't mind I will keep your information in case a twist of fate in the future make me sell it (I really hope not but nobody knows what is in our future), I have more guitars and since I can not play live anymore I keep them as new, so believe me that the guitar would be as good as knew in the future. Thanks for recognizing me! :D

That's cool man, I was just giveing you a hard time. Anyway don't feel to bad for me, my wife just got me a new Axis and it's the coolist.

I,ve locked myself in my room with my new guitar, 4-track and drum machine. I only come out for food and water.

I tip my hat to all at Ernie Ball Music Man for building the best production guitars in the world. And trust me, I've played them all.

I have 8 guitars, and the Axis is my new number 1.

The fit and finish is just awsome.

Take care and I'll see you at the store sometime. :D

Coooooool!!!

Man that is so cool from your wife to give you an axis, you must be a great person, not everyone has a wife that do that kind of special gifts, congratullations on both!!! (Wife and new guitar).

The axis is a great guitar, I have the axis super sport used one in natural curly maple that was on the store, that guitar was almost like new (still the plastic in the back plate) so I can imagine.

Take care and have a great recording time!:D
