Hi All....I'm a soon to be owner of a new Silo30 in White. Just ordered it from GC and I've been tracking it along its UPS route from KC to NYC, counting the hours until it arrives on Thursday. Can you tell I'm excited to get my hands on it? :D

My question is: Do you recommend that I get it set up once it arrives? If so, should I have the strings replaced as part of the typical set up (I'm thinking no since they come with EBs). What are your thoughts/recommendations on both of these issues?

Thanks for any advice/input.

I'm a D'addario .010-.052 man, so I had to re-set up the guitar to my string preferences once it arrived. The factory setup that Pat Park gave it was just fine and it played great right out of the box, though. ;)

Thanks. I have D'addarios on my other 2 guitars (midnight blue/purple MIM Strat and trans brazillia burst Dean MLX) and haven't tried EBs yet so I'll likely leave the stock strings on and see how they play before making any changes....who knows...maybe I'll be an EB convert.

Sounds like you had some nice personalized service there from Pat giving you a great initial set up. That's really excellent customer service. Always refreshing to know there are people going up and above to ensure customer satisfaction...makes all the difference in the world to me. I'm pretty sure that GC isn't doing anything special on their end before they ship the guitars out though. My local guy Manny at David Gage does excellent work so I suppose if I find it's a little off from the shipping, etc. I'll take it into him for a quick set up. I'll just have to see when it arrives what it needs, if anything.

Only 1 more day until my baby arrives.

I think you may just be an EB convert. I have been playing their strings long before I discovered Music Man.

I think you most likely won't need a setup.

I honestly thought that mine was great right out of the box. It's got EB 9-42 Slinkys on it.

The only negative I can give the guitar is that there is a noticeable volume drop going from the bridge humbucker to the single coils. A pickup change may be in your future.

I got it!!!!!!!!!!

It arrived.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Truly AMAZING!!! I expected to like it but it's so much better than I expected. It really truly is a thing of beauty. The neck is supple, smooth, fast, and fits the hand perfectly. The weight and proportions are just right, although when I first put it on, I immediately noticed its smaller stature compared to my MIM Strat and way smaller than my Dean ML. The frets are nicely polished as is the rosewood fingerboard. I love the fingerboard. Fit and finish are superb. Sound: unbelievable. Loving the full throaty HB and the familiar single pups. It could very well be the perfect blend of my other two axes. I'll surely be using this for my next gig. Speaking of gigs....the included gig bag really needs to be mentioned here. It's very well made, heavy duty and VERY thickly padded. If I had to pick on one thing that needs improvement, it would be that the shoulder strap could be a little beefier, perhaps some padding, but for a FREE gig bag, who am I to complain?? I am very happy so far.

Now, I've only had it for less than 1 hour, but so far, I'm digging it. SO much! Can't wait to get to know her better.

I do have a question for the other Silo30 owners out there: Is there any sort of waranty card, instruction book, or any documentation whatsoever that should be included with the guitar? There was no documentation in my box, other than a hang tag stating that it has Ernie Ball Strings.

Oh...and here are some pics of my new beauty:

I bought mine from GC and it came with a small booklet. It had the description of the Sterling line - which you can find on their website - along with a warranty card. Not needed though as you can go to their website and register the guitar there.

Sterling by MUSIC MAN - WARRANTY

Enjoy!

such a nice little guitar

Yes, agreed. Nice "little" guitar indeed. Truth be told, it would be a great guitar even if it were the size of a standard strat. Actually, the smaller stature of the guitar is simply an added bonus. Now I can travel with it and the bulk associated with other guitars which would cause me to leave them home won't even be a consideration with this puppy. I played it for hours yesterday and last night. Not quite used to the EB strings yet. What's strange is that when you're wearing it and you start to play it, the size difference really isn't noticable and if it is felt, that feeling quickly fades. Overall, it just feels so solid in my hands...more so than many other guitars I've played.

Was noodling around with the solo for Time last night and it just felt glorious. I'm no David Gilmour but it sounded sweet.

Complete

Just put on the schaller strap locks (fender version) and a nice new royal blue suede strap to complete it.

Can't wait to gig with it Tuesday night!
