Well, I had to let my beloved Sterling 4H go. Despite the fact that it was the instrument that sank the Musicman hook into me—it had just been sitting in my closet for the past few years—ever since I got my hands on my first Stingray. I just feel more comfortable on the Stingray neck.
I'd had it advertised on Kijiji and Craigslist for quite some time, either to trade or sell (I was more interested in trading though). I had tons of offers for basses that I had no interest in (even a stealth Bongo... sorry guys, I know that you love them... but they just don't do it for me), along with a bunch of cash offers that didn't hit the mark (some of them no where near the mark!). I figured if I was patient enough, that I'd find exactly what I was looking for. It took about six months, but it was worth the wait.
I got a response from someone with a Stingray Classic that felt the neck was just too chunky for him, who had previously owned a Sterling, and wanted that fast, slim profile again... it was a perfect match!
We did the swap this weekend, and here's what I came home with:
