3 hour drive one way or both ways?

I wouldn't consider that local any way, but, it is a nice collection worth the travel!

As great as it is, and the selection would fit me perfectly, but there are no Sterlings, no Bongos. Which is kind of sad to see...

Oli, what's it like in Switzerland? Here, the best shop in the whole country has SR4, SR5 and Sterling4, the "good" dealers have only a few SR4 and maybe a sterling and an sr5, and only one store I know of has a Bongo, a red 4-string.

There are no Bongos. At all. I contacted the distributor, and it was like "well, if you order one, we'll have one".
One of the largest, if not the largest dealer is Musik Produktiv, which is a subsidiary of a large German dealer chain. They list tons of stuff on their website, but fact is that they will have one StingRay 4 and one StingRay 5 in the shop, if you're lucky. Generally in black or a dark burst colour. Pickup configurations vary.

Never any Sterling. Never any Bongo. And no fretless at all. That goes as far as knowledgable sales people being truly astonished when seeing a fretless SR4 in person...

Almost all of the SR's I have, I bought sight unseen, over the internet, or ordered.

its so frustrating to me to see the line being shrink by dealer and distributor opinion....

I would imagine....retailers are not ignorant of general sales trends, especially the Big Retailers, but it drives me up the wall when they make these broad, sweeping generalizations that may or may not be accurate.

"Bongos are weird looking and we can't sell them."

"Green basses are unpopular."

"Send me more Stingrays."

Why not just build black/maple Stingrays?

It's crazy. While I of all people realize that this forum is not indicative of the bass buying public...

Um, I'm preaching to the choir, am I not?

hang them fair guys, yes there was no sterlings or bongo's which is a pitty as i have never played a sterling and bought my bongo second hand before i ever laid eyes on one.

however the manager told me if I was really interested in a bongo 5 he will order me one with

A) no deposit

B) if I dont like it it i dont have to buy it

now that impressed me,however chances are if he did get a bongo 5 in he would have to break my hands off it before he could put it back on display.

he also said he would take a serious look at getting a sterling in next time they put an order in.

i have bought an trace rig a swr rig and a laney rig from these guys in the past (they didn't stock mark bass gear so i got it elsewhere) and always found them very helpfull.

they are xmusic in Dublin used to be called musican inc.

Musik Produktiv should have some Bongo's in stock though.
They're probably in the warehouse. (for online sales) Just demand that you want to play it. ;)

My favourite bass store is still Bass Central. More choice, free lunch when coming over from abroad and (most important) far better service!
(1 thing I cant stand is annoying salespeople)

I´ve worked in some of the bigger music stores here in Stockholm for some years and the fact is that most folks (a majority) that buys instruments:

A/ buy black instruments.

B/ are very "traditional" when it comes to design

That is just a fact and it´s most likely the reason for stores/importers being somewhat reluctant to other things. They fear that it will be hard/harder to sell the instrument. I have no idea what to do to open up folks minds regarding this. It seems to me that most people like black because it looks good together with most colors/clothes and stage lights. I myself am the exakt oposite. I often opt for other things than what most people would go for. Don´t know why. Must have hit my head really hard into something when I was a young lad.

They don't. I asked. There simply are no Bongos in Switzerland!
And Musik Produktiv Switzerland does not offer them on their website, and also cannot offer stock of their German mother house. It's against the regulations.

LOL!!!

So do I, obviously. My SR4HH in DG isn't exactly something you see often. Neither the dealer nor the distributor had ever seen that colour. And when the dealer called the distributor to place the order, they responded on the phone "but... the client does know it is ORANGE?!!??!!!". Upon a worried look by the dealer, I responded "Yes, I know. It's orange" with a broad grin on my face :D

When I go to my local music store ( we only really have one) to check out MM's I get told "you should buy a Jazz bass" I say I'm looking for "something else" they always suggest a peavey cirrus.
Bummer. Luckily, DuBaldo takes care of the pain.
