New to EBMM need advice

Hi all,

I decided after learning guitar for a year I would treat myself to an EBMM JPXI (6 string) I love the feel even as a newbie to playing guitar I can't believe how good this guitar feels compared to the other guitars I owned prior to getting this. However I do have a few questions and hopefully you guys can help me out.

1. My term arm moves freely but it's quite squeaky and when using the bridge and neck PU when the arm swings the squeaking can be heard through my amp, is there a fix for this is there a way I can tighten it slightly to eliminate the noise?

2. When changing strings and tuning do I do this the same way I would with a floyd rose type bridge?

3. What should I use to clean the ebony fretboard with, is lemon oil ok to use?

Any other hints and tips would be gratefully received as I want to keep my guitar in tip top shape.

Congratulations on a great guitar to start with! I got stuck starting out with an acoustic that had a string action of up to a half an inch.

1. Have you tried wiping down your trem arm? If that doesn't help then you may want to put a little lube it a little. Just make sure that you wipe off any excess so that it doesn't get sloppy. If you want to tighten the friction, there's a little set screw that you can access by tilting the bridge down.

2. It's a floating bridge so there's going to be a bunch of tuning and re-tuning. Easier than a Floyd IMO but I don't find Floyd's difficult to deal with either.

3. I'm going to beat everyone to the punch when I say "Wonder Wipes" for your fretboard. Before those existed, I used lemon oil to do the job.

Finally, as you may have read in the other thread, you may have to learn how to tweak your truss rod. Small adjustments are sometimes needed and there's info on how to do it at the EBMM FAQs.

Thanks for the reply acwild, and having such a generous and understanding future wife is why I have this great guitar.

I found the adjustment screw and now the squeaking has gone, I also took your advice and ordered all the different wonder wipes to keep my guitar and strings like new. I have also bookmarked the truss rod adjustment for when I have to make tweaks.

I have another question which output should I use to plug into my amp? I currently use the bottom one am I doing things right?
I know the top one I'd for the piezo and it says mono on it and the bottom says stereo but I'm just a little confused by it.

Hello Scoop and welcome

When you change your tuning, normally you have nothing to do when your guitar has a fixed bridge. I use several tuning (normal, open G, open D, open A, DADGAD) and I never had a problem.
With a tremolo, you will perhaps have to adjust the springs tension.
If you change your string gauge, you will (perhaps) to adjust the truss rod and the intonation.

Basically, if you want to use the piezo, you have to plug into the upper one. If you're not planning on using it, you can save some battery life by plugging into the bottom.

Hi Scoop, may I also suggest some Gorgomyte wipes for your fretboard and frets? It will keep your frets looking shiny year round while also keeping your fretboard conditioned.

Some people say you shouldn't use oil on ebony boards, saying it can accelerate splitting. I don't agree but I'm putting it out there so that you can do some research to form an opinion.
