It never hurts to ask them to take less. they may be needing a sale and will accept it. then everyone feels a win-win.
If he wont take that then offer to split the difference $625. That's fair.

Good luck!

Well, I did it!

I am now a proud owner of my first MM Axis Sport! Really, I never thought until I saw this guitar at the shop that I would ever own one or even wanted one. You know your mind tends to focus on mass media stuff - Fender, Gibson, etc. After testing it out over the weekend, and thinking about the various comments on this thread, I offered less (won't say, unless you really want to know) and surprisingly, they accepted. Gonna put on some fresh 10's and see what it can do.

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions/support!

One more question. I had asked earlier about taking some of previous owner's DNA off the neck and fretboard, and someone had suggested fine steel wool. Is that the best? I am afraid that it might take off too much wood.

I'd try Murphy's Oil Soap or Murphy's Oil Soap Wipes. Or Wonder Wipes ( if you can find 'em). Or Lemon Oil. If they don't do the trick, then give it a light going over with the 0000 Steel Wool. You can't take off too much with 0000, It is meant for buffing & polishing. Congrats. Sport players unite.

OK. I am now probably just babbling, but just called EB and got the date of the manufacture based on the serial number. Well, call it a karma, a cosmic alignment or what ever you will, but it is my son's birthday! Now, how about THAT! I guess I can never sell this guitar as it was made for me, and found its rightful owner 10 years after it was made (birthed?) :)
