Hi all =) A few days ago I went into Sam Ash and Guitar Center on a mission. That mission was to buy a new guitar. I was originally interested in an ESP LTD EC-1000. I was going to get the amber sunburst with the seymour duncans. SA had a red one with emg's. Long story short, I didn't like it. At all! And I'm happy I didn't do an impulse buy and order it from musician's friend like I toyed around with doing!

So anyway, there's this Axis hardtail in the blue and a couple of the wolfgangs sitting there. So I start to play them (through a peavy XXX head)...talk about SWEET! My lynch model esp has a 25 1/2 scale neck and so do the EBMM so that's why I never tried them out. My fingers are short and the ESP isn't the easiest to play. But I was amazed by how fast the necks are on these things! I instantly fell in love with them both.

I liked the sound of the pup in the wolfie better. It was hot with great harmonics but I liked the placement of the pup selector on the axis better. I was looking for a fixed bridge at the time too until I realized that the EBMM floyd rose isn't like my esp's floyd. It's blocked and only goes till it pretty much hits the body which to me means it's got the tone of a blocked bar and it'll be easier to change the strings cause the stupid bridge won't sag when I take the strings off!

So I mosey on over to guitar center and they have an axis in the natural finish. I had to have it. I fell in love with the color and the fact that I loved the neck from jamming on two previously made this one a no brainer. 12 month financing here I come =D

Now, the jury's still out on the pups in the axis. I really wish they had the same pups as the wolfgang but for the finish and whatnot I can deal with it until I decided whether I wanna re-pup the thing or not. I'm a Duncan man by the way ;)

I was having problems with the action though. Cause the bar's more or less blocked when at rest you can only lower the bridge so far. And I didn't wanna mess with the truss rod cause I never had to on any other guitar. But I emailed EBMM and they told me to lower the action using the truss rod, so now I'm set! when I get home from work that's the first thing I'm gonna do! The neck's quick as it is but once I lower that action (above 12 it's a little too high for my liking) then I'm gonna be in business! heheh

Sorry to blab! Just wanted to make my presence known and share the my excitment over quite possibly the best looking and definetly the best playing guitar I've ever laid my hands on!

See ya on the boards =)

Hey Shredder.

Don't most stores give you one free set-up when you buy the guitar? I have not bought a new guitar in a while but that used to be standard at the store in my area.

Congrats on the Ax-quisition Shredder! and welcome to the family  The Axis is one of the finest guitars made, and I'm sure you'll come to appreciate yours the way I love all of mine! :D Take it slow on the pickups, tho' - live with 'em a while before you decide to swap 'em out... I used to own a Wolfie as well as a couple Axes, and I didn't like the Wolfgang pups as much as the custom Dimarzios in an Axis; I think the Axis pickups are more expressive, more versatile, and plenty hot, with a nice mid-punch, and none of the harshness that the Wolfgang pickups gave me... ymmv, of course...

thanks!

and as an update of sorts, I lowered the action via raising the neck using the truss rod...and dude, that woke these pickups UP!! i can't believe the change...I've never seen anything like it..I never expected a mere action change, much less one from the neck, to make the pups so much tighter sounding..

this is hands down the best guitar I've ever played
